Written by Theresa Rose on April 15, 2019

Scott Zaiser, Burlington businessman and volunteer, will be honored as the Boy Scouts 2019 Distinguished Citizen Award recipient at the 24th Annual Banquet Wednesday, May 22nd.

The Distinguished Citizen Award honors a person who represents the spirit and the values of Scouting throughout the community.  The Banquet is also a major fundraiser for the Mississippi Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Zaiser, the son of the late Bob and Carol Zaiser, was born in Decorah and raised in Burlington.  At Iowa State University he studied Landscape Design and Horticulture and upon completion, returned to Burlington and became the fifth generation to work in the family business.  In 1997, he became President of Zaiser’s Landscaping.

In the mid 1980’s, with encouragement from Dr. Donald Allgood, Zaiser joined the Burlington Rotary Club.  It was that experience that initiated his involvement in service and volunteerism in the Burlington community. Zaiser has served in leadership positions with Burlington Chamber of Commerce, First United Methodist Church, Burlington Little League, Purple and Gray Foundation, Burlington YMCA, and several city advisory boards.  Scott is currently President of Burlington Baseball Association and President of the Burlington High School Booster Club.  Zaiser has also served on MidWestOne Bank Board and is the developer of Arbor View Subdivision.

Scott and his wife, Nina, have two children; Ethan, a freshman at Iowa State and Elayna, a sophomore at Burlington High School.

The banquet will be held Wednesday, May 22nd at the Burlington Golf Club. Social hour at 6:00pm with dinner at 6:30pm. For tickets or for more information contact the Scout Office at 3007 Flint Hills Drive in Burlington or call 319-754-8413.
