North Scott defeated the MPHS Panthers in baseball at Maple Leaf complex last night 15-11. Brady Anderson suffered the loss on the mound. Mt. Pleasant had 8 hits, but also committed 8 errors. Zach Ebbling and Tyler Ruby each went 2 for 4. Beau Parkevich was 2 for 3. Taylor Alliman had a triple. Ebbling and Parkevich each had 3 RBI’s. The Panthers are now 0-3 on the season.
OTHER BASEBALL SCORES: Winfield Mt. Union 3 Lone Tree 2, Wapello 16 Waco 1, New London 12 Central Lee 8.
SOFTBALL SCORES: Mt. Pleasant and Burlington split in JV softball action. Burlington won the opener 8-0 behind a no hit pitching performance. M.P. took the 2nd game 8-1. New London 6 Central Lee 5, Lone Tree 11 Winfield Mt. Union 4.

Clear Creek Amana defeated the Mt. Pleasant Panther boys soccer team 3-1 in the Class 2A Substate semifinals on the Clippers home pitch last night. Cedar Rapids Xavier won the other semifinal match over Ft. Madison 8-0. Clear Creek Amana will play at Xavier tomorrow at noon with the winner going to state. The MPHS girls soccer team opens up Regional tournament play tonight at home against Ft. Madison at 6 p.m. The winner will advance onto the semifinals Tuesday at North Scott who has a 1st round bye. Class 1A boys Substate soccer semifinal action last night saw Columbus Community beat Holy Trinity Catholic 2-0. Danville-New London won over Central Lee 7-0. Those winners meet tomorrow in the Substate final at West Point with a noon start time, the winner advances onto state.

The New London High School boy’s golf team begins play today in the 88th Annual IHSAA State Spring Golf Championships that are slated for today and tomorrow. Class 1A will be contested at the Marshalltown American Legion Course. Algona Garrigan is the defending 1A champion and has won the title 10 times over the years. Golfers tee off at 10:30 a.m. today and 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.
The New London Tigers girls golf team advanced onto the State Meet June 1st and 2nd at the Ames Country Club. Winfield Mt. Union did get one player through to state for medalist play, Grace Edwards. New London will have Emma Pry, Jorgi Krieger and Paetyn Prottsman involved in medalist competition.

ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE: SATURDAY: MPHS varsity softball at L&M tournament, MPHS JV softball at Ottumwa tournament.
This summer, Iowa Wesleyan will host a variety of camps for volleyball. The scheduled camps include junior high skills camp, high school skills camp, setter camp, speed/agility/strength camp, Tiger Cub camp, middles camp, outsides camp, and a libero camp.
