Hot free throw shooting by the Mt. Pleasant High School varsity girl’s basketball team helped them capture a big conference win at Keokuk Friday night. In the 49-40 victory over the Lady Chiefs the Panthers hit 23 of 24 free throws while Keokuk sank 11 of 18 attempts. Kelsi Phipps led the Panthers with 20 points, Sarah Moffett added 10 and did a great job rebounding, Hannah Becker contributed 7 points and several steals. In the JV game Keokuk won 51-41.

Today M.P. plays at Oskaloosa at 1:30 p.m. in a girl-boy double header Oskaloosa lost to Eddyville Blakesburg Freemont 58-39 last night, KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the action of both games live.

Keokuk defeated the MPHS boys in varsity basketball action in Panther Gym 50-36, Kieran Kohorst had 10 points to lead the Panther scoring.

In the freshman game M.P. won 64-41 with Damian Lorenzo scoring 16 points. Keokuk won the JV game 60-47, Maison Ashton led the maroon and gold with 12 points.

The varsity boys play at Oskaloosa today, hear the action on KILJ-FM at 3 p.m.

MPHS wrestling team is traveling to Williamsburg today for a round robin dual meet tournament.

The Panther bowling teams are traveling to Washington for a dual meet.

The Iowa Wesleyan College women and men play basketball at conference foe Greenville College in Illinois.


The Mt. Pleasant versus Solon girls basketball games that were to be played Monday January 5th have been rescheduled for Monday January 26th.  Fresh-Soph game begins at 4:30, followed by the JV and Varsity games. KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.


The Henry County Conservation Naturalist Cari Nicely has announced the schedule for this year’s fly tying classes. This year there is one for beginners and one for experienced tiers. Here are the details of the classes.
