The undefeated 24-0 and #2 ranked Danville Bears boys basketball team is one win away from qualifying for the 2015 State Basketball Tournament. That win hopefully will come tonight when they play 18-5 Sigourney in the Class 1A Substate Championship at Fairfield with tipoff at 7 p.m. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the action live.
The West Burlington Falcons boys basketball team coached by former Waco Warrior Ryan Shelman will battle Iowa City Regina in the Class 2A substate final at Muscatine at 7 p.m. with the winner going onto state. West Burlington has a record of 14-10 and is playing it’s best basketball of the season at the right time, the Falcons have never been to the state tournament and this is only the 2nd district championship they have won.
Iowa State plays Kansas State on KILJ-AM 1130 today airtime is 2:30 p.m. Iowa is playing at Penn State, they will tipoff at 5 p.m. UNI battles Wichita State on the road for the Missouri Valley Conference Title.
Iowa Wesleyan College women will play Alfred State College of Wellsville, New York in the 1st round of the USCAA National Basketball Tournament at 1 pm on Wednesday March 4th. The school is located in extreme south central New York State, with 3500 students. Their record is 18-6 and they are appearing in a national tournament for the 1st time in their programs history. They are led by Haley Witchella a senior who is the all time leading scorer, she averages 21 points a game and 14 rebounds.
The Wesleyan men will play at 5 p.m. Wednesday March 4th against Berea College of Berea, Ky. located south of Lexington. This is their 1st appearance in the USCAA Tournament, they went to the NAIA National Tournament in 1999. The Mountaineers are 19-5 and had won five games in a row until they lost their last game in double overtime to Ohio Christian.
