Drake Relays:

Girls’ shot put:  Lexie Magnani a Junior for the MPHS Track Team will be bringing home a medal  from the Drake Relays. Her throw of 40’5.5 was the 3rd best throw in the competition held Friday morning.

Boys’ discus:  MPHS senior Zach Beason finished 10th with a throw of 155′ 10″.

Boys’ Long Jump: Rylan Seberg 4th 21′ 8 1/4″ in the Drake Long Jump

Khang Truong of MPHS finished 21st in boys long jump with 18′ 9 3/4″ jump

1600 Medley relay:  MPHS boys ran 3:39.84 to finish 16th Khang Truong, Chase Lamm, Rylan Seberg and Jacob Stukerjurgen

Boys’ 100m Dash: 

Jax Lamm – West Burlington Notre Dame – 10.99 (4th fastest prelims); will qualify for the finals. Cousin to Mount Pleasant’s Chase Lamm.

Jagger Gourley – Mediapolis – 11.03 (7th fastest prelims); will qualify for the finals.

Boys’ 110m High Hurdles: 

(Sr.) Chase Lamm (7th in Heat 2 30th overall) — 15.92; will not qualify for the finals.

It was a strong opening day for two Mount Pleasant Panthers yesterday afternoon at the 109th running of the Drake Relays in Des Moines. Starting in boys’ high jump, senior Sam Beatty finished 7th overall, clearing 6’5, failing to jump 6’7. Beatty is currently tied for 2nd in Class 3A in the high jump.

Junior Abby Ryon continued improving on her school record 3000m time earning a 17th place finish at the Drake Relays yesterday. Ryon is currently 3rd in the state in 3A in the 3000m run only behind Glenwood’s Janette Schraft and Nevada’s Kacie Rewerts.

Action continues early again today, Chase Lamm will run the 110 high hurdles at 8:15, Lexie Magnani throws the shot at 8:30, and Zach Beason throws the discus at 9 am.  Khang Truong long jumps at 9:30 Friday, Rylan Seberg will long jump in the 2nd flight at 9:45 am, the boy’s distance medley runs at 10:02 to wrap up the events involving Panthers.

Saturday at 8:15 the MPHS boys shuttle hurdle team runs, at 9:28 the Panther girls 4×100 relay hits the Blue Oval, the Panther boys 4×100 runs at 10:03.  Maggie Cristoforo is the final Panther to perform at 1:11 Saturday afternoon in the 400 hurdles.  KILJ-FM 105.5 will have updates on the action from Drake as well as posts on our website and Facebook and Twitter pages.

Girls’ Track:

(KILJ) — The Mount Pleasant girls track team had a very successful afternoon yesterday at the talented Pella Relays, taking first place. Listen to our full sports report for all the information from Pella, with head coach Scott Lamm.

Boys Tennis:

(KILJ) — The Mount Pleasant boys’ tennis team continued their hot ways of late earning a 5-1 win victory over Fairfield last night.

Jaxon Hoyle 8-6 over Noel Peterson

Donny Arledge dispatched Will Sheppard 9-7

Fairfield’s Blake Holden tripped up David Nyugen 9-7

Jack Schimmelpfinning took down Brian Parcel 8-5

And Clayton Henriksen defeated Michael Holt 8-1

The victory for Mount Pleasant upped their season record to a stunning 7-1. They’ll be back on the courts next Friday at home versus Albia.

Girls’ Soccer:

(KILJ) — Mount Pleasant traveled to Fairfield for a Varsity/JV double header. Mount Pleasant swept Fairfield 3-1 in Varsity and 4-0 in JV.

Mount Pleasant took the lead in the first half with a goal by Kaela Welcher, tapping in a loose ball off a corner kick.  The second was added from a long range shot from Mary West that hit the post and caromed in.

Fairfield scored off a free kick early in the 2nd half to make 2-1. Liz Litchfield responded shortly after scoring directly from a corner kick making it 3-1 Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant is now 7-1 (5-0 in conference) and hosts Keokuk on Monday.

Mount Pleasant JV won by a score of 4-0. Kendin Scheitlin scored twice, Kalyssa Longhurst and Abby West each added a goal as well.

Boys’ Soccer:

(KILJ) — The Mount Pleasant boys’ soccer team fell last night to the hands of Fairfield, 2-0. The Trojans took a 1-0 first-half lead that Mount Pleasant could not overcome. The Panthers are now 8-3 on the year and will look to rebound Monday on the road in Keokuk

Boys’ Golf:

(KILJ) —  The Mount Pleasant Panther boys’ golf team finished 4th overall last night from the Invitational at the Preserve.

Jake Moffett was the low scorer for the Panthers, shooting an 83. Brevin Wilson shot an 84, Trace White an 86, Rhett Zeglen an 89, while Brady Shelledy added a 92.

Golf will take today off, before competing tomorrow in an invite at 8:00 a.m. at Fairfield Golf and Country Club.

Iowa Wesleyan Wesley’s:

(KILJ) — And the first annual Wesley’s – an event to honor Tiger athletes – will be tonight at the University Chapel at Iowa Wesleyan. The invite only event will begin at 7:00 p.m. this evening.

Sports Scheduled for Mt Pleasant:

Friday: Girls golf will host an invitational at the Mt Pleasant Golf & Country Club at 1pm, teams competing include Clear Creek-Amana, Grinnell, Iowa City Liberty, Muscatine, Notre Dame, and Ottumwa

Drake Relays in Des Moines

Girls’ tennis will host Fort Madison at 4:30pm

Boys’ tennis will play at Fort Madison at 4:30pm

Middle school girls’ track will compete in a meet at Keokuk at 4:30pm

Saturday: Boys golf will play in an invitational at Fairfield Golf & Country Club at 8am
