Drake Relays:

(KILJ) — The Mt. Pleasant Panther girls and boys track teams are sending a number of athletes to the 2019 Drake Relays in Des Moines Thursday thru Saturday.  The 1st Panther events happen Thursday with Sam Beatty in the high jump at 4:30 p.m.  Abby Ryon will run in the 3000 meter race at 5:40 p.m.

Friday will be a busy day as well, Chase Lamm will run the 110 high hurdles at 8:15, Lexie Magnani throws the shot at 8:30, Zach Beason throws the discus at 9 am.  Khang Truong long jumps at 9:30 Friday, Rylan Seberg will long jump in the 2nd flight at 9:45 am, the boy’s distance medley runs at 10:02 to wrap up the events involving Panthers.

Saturday at 8:15 the MPHS boys shuttle hurdle team runs, at 9:28 the Panther girls 4×100 relay hits the Blue Oval, the Panther boys 4×100 runs at 10:03.  Maggie Cristoforo is the final Panther to perform at 1:11 Saturday afternoon in the 400 hurdles.  KILJ-FM 105.5 will have updates on the action from Drake as well as posts on our website and Facebook and Twitter pages.

Iowa Wesleyan Golf:

(KILJ) — The IW Men’s Golf Team competed on Monday and Tuesday in the SLIAC Conference Tournament at the Weaver Ridge Golf Course. The Tigers finished Day 1 in fourth place and were unable to improve on their Day 1 results, finishing the tournament in 5th place.

On Day 1, IW were led by Blake Forsythe (SR/Barden Ridge, Sydney, NSW, Aus)’s first round 81 and second round 79,  which put him tied for 10th overall. Jeff Cox (SO/Mount Pleasant, IA) finished the second round with a 78, which was the best score of the day for the Tigers. As a team, IW finished with 670 points after the first day of golf.

In the third round of the tournament on Tuesday, the Tigers were led by Jaime Suarez (FR/Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain)’s 81. Cameron Mack recorded an 84 in round three, which was second best for IW on the day.

The Tigers would finish with a combined team score of 1018, giving them a fifth place finish in the tournament.

IW Men’s Golf will close out their spring season on April 27th and 28th in Monmouth, IL at the Monmouth College Scot Invite at the Gibson Woods Golf Course.

All-Sportsmanship Team:

(KILJ) — Iowa Wesleyan’s Austin Willis (JR/Essesx, IL) represented the IW Men’s Golf Team on the 2019 SLIAC All-Conference All-Sportsmanship Team following the SLIAC Men’s Golf Conference Tournament on April 22nd and April 23rd

Iowa Wesleyan Softball:

(KILJ) — And, the 23-8 Iowa Wesleyan softball team will be back at home this afternoon welcoming in the Beavers of Blackburn College for a double header. Blackburn comes in with a record of 12-16, the Tigers will look to continue their perfect season at home — they’re 10-0 this year at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. Game one is set for 3:00 p.m.

Sports Scheduled for Mt Pleasant:

Thursday: Boys golf will play in an invitational at the Preserve Golf Course in Moravia.

Drake Relays taking place in Des Moines, John

Boys’ soccer hosting Fairfield at 4:30pm, JV at 6pm

Girls’ soccer will be at Fairfield at 4:30pm, JV at 6pm

Girls and boys track will compete in the Tulip Relays in Pella tonight, field events at 4:45pm

Friday: Girls golf will host an invitational at the Mt Pleasant Golf & Country Club at 1pm, teams competing include Clear Creek-Amana, Grinnell, Iowa City Liberty, Muscatine, Notre Dame, and Ottumwa

Drake Relays in Des Moines

Girls’ tennis will host Fort Madison at 4:30pm

Boys’ tennis will play at Fort Madison at 4:30pm

Middle school girls’ track will compete in a meet at Keokuk at 4:30pm

Saturday: Boys golf will play in an invitational at Fairfield Golf & Country Club at 8am
