Iowa Wesleyan baseball played a conference double header with Fontbonne yesterday in the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. In game one the Tigers jumped out to a three run lead. Chazz Brown got things started with a RBI single. Then with bases loaded Nick Salas scored on a wild pitch and Joseph Mitchell scored on an error. Griffins scored two runs in the 2nd inning to cut the Iowa Wesleyan lead down to 3-2. Tigers scored again in the 2nd inning when Jacob Leonard hit into a double play but a run scored. Fontbonne was able to tie it up 4-4 in the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 7th inning Jack De Burgh came to the plate with the bases loaded and he hit a RBI single for a walk off Tiger win. Charles Shockley pitched 5 and two third innings but Mitchell Wilcox picked up the win in his relief role.

Game two the Griffins scored a run in the 1st but Iowa Wesleyan would strike back with three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Michael Noonan scored on a wild pitch and then Joseph Mitchell hit a two RBI single. Fontbonne went on to score runs in the 3rd and 5th inning to lead 6-3. Tigers scored four runs in the 5th off Nick Salas and Chazz Browns who each drove in a run and then Jack De Burgh hit a two RBI double. Griffins scored five runs in the final two innings to win 11-7. Iowa Wesleyan baseball drops to 8-24-1 overall on the season and 6-14 in conference games, they will be back in action on Tuesday for a conference double header with Westminster College.


The Drake Relays are coming up April 24-27 up in Des Moines. Mt Pleasant track and field will be well represented. Qualifiers from the girls track team include Abby Ryon in the 3000 meter run, Lexie Magnani in shot put, Maggie Cristoforo in the 400 meter hurdles, and the 4×100  relay team. Qualifiers from the boys team include Sam Beatty in the high jump, Rylan Seberg and Khang Truong in the long jump, Zach Beason in discus, Chase Lamm in the 110 hurdles, the distance medley team, 4×100 relay team, and the shuttle hurdle team. KILJ will have coverage of the Drake Relays.


Sports Scheduled for Mt Pleasant:

Saturday: Varsity boys golf will be playing in an invitational against Columbus Junction, Fort Madison, Pella, and Washington up at the Washington Golf & Country Club at 9am.
