MT. PLEASANT – In honor of National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Week January 25-31, Henry County Health Center recognizes Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) Todd Ralls, Director of the Anesthesia & Pain Management Department, Steve Park and Jared Miller.

All three of HCHC’s anesthesia providers have an unwavering dedication to clinical excellence and customer satisfaction. Jared Miller has over 10 years of anesthesia experience and has been on staff at HCHC for three years. Steve Park has been a CRNA for 28 years and an HCHC associate for almost 25 years. Todd Ralls is HCHC’s Director of Anesthesia and Pain Management with over 12 years of experience and 1 ½ years on staff at HCHC.

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA’s) are advanced practice nurses with specialized graduate-level education in anesthesia care. They have been providing anesthesia care to patients in the United States for more than 150 years. Nurse anesthesia dates back to the Civil War and CRNA’s have been the front-line provider of anesthesia care to the US military since WWI. Today, more than 42,000 CRNAs administer 32 million anesthetics in the United States each year. In addition, CRNA’s administer anesthesia for all types of surgical cases, from the simplest to the most complex. In Iowa CRNA’s are licensed independent providers of anesthesia and are the sole providers in nearly 100 percent of the rural hospitals in the state. HCHC is fortunate to have three of these highly educated, experienced anesthesia professionals.

HCHC’s Anesthesia & Pain Management Department provides the following services:
• Anesthesia for surgical procedures
• Anesthesia for diagnostic procedures performed in surgery and other departments
• Pain Management procedures
• Airway management for Trauma Codes and Code Blue
• Intubation of Emergency Department patients and hospitalized patients
• Pain Management for obstetrics laboring patients including epidurals and intrathecals
• Pre-operative visits on all surgical patients
• Diagnostic lumbar taps
