Main Street Mount Pleasant Announces Business Pitch Competition

MOUNT PLEASANT— Budding entrepreneurs will soon have an opportunity pitch their big ideas in front of a panel of local business leaders, with a chance to win up to $30,000 to jumpstart their business venture. Think “Shark Tank”, the hit television show on ABC.

Main Street Mount Pleasant will host the local pitch off, awarding $2,000 in cash and prizes to the winner. The local winner will move on to a regional competition with an $8,000 cash prize, and potentially the statewide competition with a $20,000 cash prize.

“This competition is about helping local entrepreneurs get started,” said Main Street Director Lisa Oetken. “Local judges will choose the best and most viable ideas, and the Chamber Alliance staff will help those entrepreneurs develop their ideas and move to the next stage. We want the state winner to operate their business here in Mount Pleasant.”

The local winner will receive a bundle of business start-up prizes:

• $500 cash, provided by Main Street Mount Pleasant and the Mount Pleasant Area Development Commission;
• A free membership in the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce;
• Design assistance provided by Pura Vida;
• Legal assistance from Bainter & Thomas Law Office
• Accounting assistance from T D & T
• Marketing Package local media

The initial pitch off is scheduled for Monday March 23rd at 6pm at the Union Block building. Contestants will have 5-minutes to convince the panel of judges that they have a successful business idea for the Main Street District, which can be a new business or expansion of an existing business. The judges will select the best ideas, and finalists will receive business consultation to develop their ideas before the final local competition on May 4th. One local winner moves on to the regional competition.
