James Theodore Mehmert, 79, of rural Donnellson, Iowa passed away at 5:24 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born January 22, 1936 near West Point, Iowa the son of Theodore and Mary (Denning) Mehmert. On November 3, 1962 he married A. Paralee Buechel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison, Iowa. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2003.
Survivors include one daughter Sue (Chris) Niggemeyer of Donnellson, Iowa. Two sons Alan Mehmert of Donnellson, Iowa and Patrick (Marcia) Mehmert of Norman, Oklahoma, two grandchildren Matthew and Sara Niggemeyer. Two brothers Francis Mehmert of Kansas City, Missouri and Paul Mehmert of Harrison, Arkansas. Two sisters Mary Cain and Rosanne Battenfield both of Harrison, Arkansas, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Paralee.
James was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison, Iowa. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in West Point, Iowa. He worked as a Security Guard at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
A private family service has been held with Reverend Mark P. Spring officiating. Cremation of his body followed the service. Burial will be at a later date.
