Iowa Wesleyan launches online graduate certificate in Strategic Leadership

Mount Pleasant, Iowa – The Higher Learning Commission has granted Iowa Wesleyan approval to launch a new online graduate-level certificate program in Strategic Leadership. With applications for the summer 2015 semester being accepted now, the Strategic Leadership graduate certificate can be completed in 12-18 months. Designed for working adults, students can enroll as part-time students. Its purpose is to provide an educational opportunity for working adults in the region seeking a post-baccalaureate credential qualifying them for a promotion or other career advancement opportunities in healthcare, business management or social services.

According to David C. File, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of adult and graduate studies, “Approval of this graduate certificate program marks an historic advance on the curricular offerings of Iowa Wesleyan. This is another step towards developing complete graduate degrees.” File went on to say, “the Higher Learning Commission expressed their continuing support of Iowa Wesleyan’s academic programs in their approval of this graduate certificate.”
Students in this program will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to increase their leadership capacity in the workplace. This program is offered in a flexible online format providing advanced leadership training in the healthcare, business and social services fields.

The program consists of two core courses, two concentration courses (in business leadership, healthcare leadership or servant leadership) and one elective course. Students who possess a baccalaureate degree can apply online at Designed for working adults, the program is offered entirely online and can be started at any of the five rolling times during the year.

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approved the teaching of graduate classes in 2009 and the first graduate class was offered in spring 2014.
