Yet another scam making the rounds

Written by Anna Greiner on August 24, 2015

There’s another scam going around. This one was reported in Lee County but surely is going around all counties. Citizens have reported calls from some purporting to be from the IRS, threatening them with a visit from the Sheriff’s Office and possible arrest if a debt owed to the IRS is not immediately settled. Once again, this is a scam. The IRS does not make phone calls to demand payment and the Sheriff’s Office is not an agent of the IRS so will not call to settle a debt. The phone numbers linked to the scam are not traceable. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is urging citizens not to fall prey to the scam. Hang up immediately if in doubt and do not provide any information to the caller.
