Yarmouth Landmark Burns

Written by Theresa Rose on March 25, 2015

The Yarmouth community lost a landmark to fire Tuesday night. The Yarmouth Cafe was destroyed in the blaze that was reported at about 9 pm. No cause has been determined but there is some think it could have started in the kitchen. Fire departments from Yarmouth, Danville, Mediapolis, Wapello, Mt. Union, New London, Burlington, West Burlington, Mt. Pleasant, and Morning Sun all responded to the scene. The historical building was originally a buggy shop but over time has been a cafe. Locals talk about the dances that were held there and the billiards that were played there. It was one resident’s observation that this will devastate the community that in recent years has lost a church, post office and country store. The restaurant is owned by Delight Kuisly.
