Wayne L. Humphrey, 83, of rural Milton died at 8:12 P.M. Wednesday March 18 at home under hospice care. He was born June 4, 1931 on the family farm North of Troy to Elmer H. and Eula Mae Pearsall Humphrey and married Evelyn Weiny June 29, 1951 at Troy Methodist Church.
Wayne grew up on the family farm where he was born, attended Oak Hill Country School, graduated from Troy High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He and Evelyn lived on their farm north of Milton, where they farmed and raised livestock. Wayne worked for John Morrell Company for 22 years, was a truck driver and drove a school bus for Davis County School. He was a member of the Troy Methodist Church, 26-89 Saddle Club and Russell Strait Post No. 483 American Legion, Milton. Wayne enjoyed his family, farming, his horses, trail riding and the annual Humphrey hog Roast
Surviving are his wife, 3 sons, Mike Humphrey (Sharry) of Bloomfield, Roger Humphrey (Linda) of Bloomfield and Curtis Humphrey (Allison) of Milton, two daughters, Karla Hill (Tony) of Bloomfield and Shelli Hoerr (Mark) of Brimfield, IL, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one on the way and a sister Elizabeth Rysdam (Bill) of Burlington, WI. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Vicki and Cheri`, two brothers, Robert and Dean Humphrey, three sisters Irene Jackson, Doris Walker and Ruth Vandegriff and a grandson, Tommy Hoerr.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday March 21, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Pastor Dave Albert officiating. Visitation will open at 3 P.M. Friday with family present from 5- 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton with military honors by Russell Strait Post No. 483 American Legion, Milton. Memorials to Russell Strait Post No. 483 for the Avenue of Flags or Tommy Hoerr Scholarship Fund may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 22033 Acorn Road, Milton, IA 52570
