On October 3rd, 2016 at approximately 9:35 P.M. the Washington Police Department received a report of an incident in the City of Washington where a subject was assaulted and the suspect was armed with a firearm. A search of the area was conducted but the suspect was not located that evening. A search warrant was executed at 300 E Main Street in Washington and a firearm was recovered. On October 4th, 2016 information was received that the suspect was at a residence in Brighton. The search of a residence at 403 South Harrison Street in Brighton resulted in the arrest of Jon Michael Holeton (33) of 300 East Main Street Apt B of Washington. Holeton was charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and transported to the Washington County Jail. Holeton is still in custody and being held on a $7,000 cash bond. Law Enforcement officers from the Washington Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Natural Resources all assisted in the investigation.
Possession of a Firearm by a Felon is a Class D Felony, punishable by up to a term not to exceed 5 years; a minimum fine of $750 and a maximum fine of $7,500 and Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon is an Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable by up to 2 years incarceration and a minimum fine of $625 and a maximum fine of $6,250. A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
