Warden Appointments

On this date, The Board of Corrections approved Corrections Director Jerry Bartruff’s recommendations for new Warden appointments as follows:

Jay Nelson is appointed Warden of the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility. Warden Nelson is currently a public service manager with Offender Services. The appointment was necessary in order to fill the vacancy created when Ron Mullen retired.

William Sperfslage is appointed Warden of the Anamosa State Penitentiary. Warden Sperfslage is currently the Acting Warden of that facility. The appointment was necessary in order to fill the vacancy created when John Fayram retired.

Sheryl Dahm is appointed Warden of the Clarinda Correctional Facility. Warden Dahm is currently Assistant Deputy Director of Institution Operations. The appointment was necessary in order to fill the vacancy created when Kris Weitzell was appointed Warden of the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility.

All appointees have extensive administrative corrections experience with proven leadership in the management, supervision and treatment of adult offenders.
All appointees will continue to focus on the Department’s Mission to Advance Successful Offender Reentry to Protect the Public, Staff and Offenders from Victimization.
