Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack described the Central Park Fountain as the heart of the Mt Pleasant and a symbol of the community.  The Secretary and his wife Christy came to Mt. Pleasant to take part in the re-dedication of the Ed King Memorial Fountain.  The park’s center piece was originally dedicated in 1988 and named in memory of Mt. Pleasant’s mayor who was shot and killed while presiding over a city council meeting nearly 20 years ago. The current fountain that replaced the previous crumbling PEO fountain recently was refurbished at Robinnson Iron where it was built. Saturday’s ceremony included a key note address by the Agriculture Secretary who was elected Mayor  following King’s death.  Vilsack spoke about service and sacrifice and how King’s dedication to Mt Pleasant was central to who Kinf was as a person.
