Two Tornadoes Touch Down in Henry CountyWritten by Theresa Rose on June 22, 2015
Two people were injured and there is possibly millions of dollars of damage after two EF1 tornadoes touched down in Henry County Saturday night. Henry County Emergency Management Coordinator Walt Jackson spent Sunday with the National Weather Service representative assessing the damage in order to determine if it was caused by tornadoes or high winds. Jackson said a mobile home was rolled and the two people inside were injured when a tornado landed near Lowell. That funnel cloud took approximately a three mile path. The other tornado struck near Wayland along the Washington-Henry County line damaging several barns and two new turkey sheds. It’s possible there was a tornado near Rome, Iowa but it didn’t touch down. That community was described as a war zone with all the damage. There was also considerable damage reported just south of Houghton in Lee County.
