Two Arrested For Burglary in Des Moines CountyWritten by Theresa Rose on March 12, 2018
On March 12, 2018 Des Moines County Sheriff’s Deputies were in the area of 13179 Highway 61 due to an unoccupied residence at this address being burglarized multiple times. At approximately 2:30 AM, a vehicle was observed pulling into the driveway and parking behind the residence. At approximately 4:30 AM the vehicle was observed leaving the residence. A vehicle stop was conducted and the two subjects inside the vehicle were detained.
The driver, Jon Michael Pitts, 30 years old, and the passenger, Dawn Marie Oberly, also 30 years old, were found in possession of items stolen from the residence at 13179 Hwy 61, as well tools that were used in the commission of the burglary.
Jon Pitts was taken to the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office where he was interviewed. Jon Pitts admitted entering the residence through an unlocked window. Pitts stated that he and Oberly removed doors and heaters from inside the residence, as well as an air conditioning unit from outside the residence.
The passenger, Dawn Oberly, 30 years old, declined to speak with Deputies and was transported to the Des Moines County Correctional Center.
It was determined that Oberly and Pitts did not have right or permission to enter the residence, or to remove any items from the property.
Jon Michael Pitts and Dawn Marie Oberly were charged with Burglary in 3rd Degree, a class D Felony, and Possession of Burglars Tools, an Aggravated Misdemeanor and placed in the Des Moines County Correctional Center
