Today is National POW/MIA Recognition DayWritten by Theresa Rose on September 16, 2016
Gov. Terry E. Branstad today released a proclamation to honor all Americans still missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam Way, Korean War, Cold War and World War II. Gov. Branstad’s proclamation also requests the citizens of Iowa to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies.
The governor’s proclamation coincides with National POW/MIA Recognition Day which is annually observed on the third Friday in September. The day was established by Congress as one of six days where flying of the National League of Families’ POW/MIA flag is mandatory.
