Thursday Accident..Vehicle Lands on Railroad TracksWritten by Theresa Rose on April 12, 2019
The Iowa State Patrol took the lead on the investigation of a single car accident that occurred Thursday on the 218 overpass east of Mount Pleasant. Just before noon David William, Junior of Omaha, Nebraska was driving South on 218/34 when he failed to negotiate a curve to the West. The vehicle became airborne, going off an embankment between the north and southbound lanes. The vehicle landed on the train tracks below the overpass hitting first on the front end, then flipping on to the back and coming to rest on its side. Early reports indicated the driver was trapped in the vehicle and unresponsive when emergency crews arrived on the scene. He was taken by ambulance to University Hospitals in Iowa City. Helicopter transport was requested but unavailable, apparently due to weather conditions.
