At the Coe Jazz Summit held at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Jazz 2 placed first in Class 3A Second Bands while Jazz 1 placed second in Class 3A. Two members of Jazz 1, Anna Steffensmeier, trombone, and Aminn Ellis, bari saxophone, were among four in Class 3A to be named Honorable Mention Musicians.

Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 captured first place honors in their respective divisions at the Indian Hills JazzFest hosted by Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.

Meanwhile, the high school show choir InMotion competed in a tough field with many 4A schools at Southeast Polk High School near Des Moines but did not make the finals.

This coming Saturday the jazz bands will be competing in the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association’s District Jazz Festival at Iowa City West High School, while InMotion and the middle school show choir Chain Reaction will be at Fort Madison High School for a competition.
