Teresa M. Schiller, 70, of Donnellson, Iowa, passed away with her husband by her side at 10:32 a.m., Friday, September 18, 2015 at her home.
Born June 8, 1945 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Hazel (Harmon) Koehler. On February 17, 1968, she married Garry L. Schiller, her high school sweetheart, at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Garry; one son, Christopher (Michelle) Schiller of Scribner, Nebraska; one daughter, Tara Schiller of Donnellson, Iowa; four grandchildren, Payton, Levi, and Ian Schiller and Lainie Zachmeyer; two sisters, Mary Ann (Ron) Krogmeier of Fort Madison, Iowa and Sandy Helling of Houghton, Iowa; one brother, John (Mary) Koehler of Montrose, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Billy Koehler; and one brother-in-law, Roger Helling.
Teresa was a member of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ. She attended Montrose Elementary School and graduated from Central Lee High School in 1963. She then attended one year of college in Kirksville, Missouri. Teresa was crowned the Montrose Watermelon Queen in 1961. She worked as a secretary for Johnson, Phelan and Tucker, DuPont, and Fruehauf. Teresa then went on to work for the Lee County Sheriffs Office where she retired after 24 years of service. She served on the Green Acres Golf Course Board and was a member of the Sheriffs and Deputies Association. Teresa enjoyed, cooking, having her family together around the table, and going to casinos. She especially enjoyed spending time and playing games with her grandchildren.
Friends may call after noon Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson. The family will meet with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that evening at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ in Donnellson with Pastor Dean Moberg officiating.
Burial will be held at the Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ.
