IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE HELD IT’S 173RD COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY SATURDAY, WITH 100 STUDENTS RECEIVING THERE DIPLOMAS.  COLLEGE PRESIDENT STEVEN TITUS ANNOUNCED THE AWARD OF TEACHER OF THE YEAR LISA KONGABLE ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF THE NURSING PROGRAM.  THE PRESIDENTS AWARD WENT TO GRADUATING SENIOR SAMANTHA SHEPHERD FROM WYANET, ILLINOIS.  AN HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE WAS AWARDED TO JAMES “JIMMIE” OSMOND, WHO THEN DELIVERED THE COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS.  THE YOUNGEST OF THE FAMOUS OSMUND FAMILY,  BEST KNOWN FOR THE SINGING OF HIS SIBLINGS DONNIE AND MARIE, CHALLANGED THE GRADUATES TO GO FORTH AND TRY NEW THINGS.  HE REMINDED THEM THAT NO ONE EVER MADE A SHOT THAT WASN’T TAKEN.
The MPHS boy’s golf team finished 3rd in the Washington Demon quadrangular golf tournament Saturday shooting a 344 score.  The Demons won on teir home course with a 315  total.  M.P. scores:  Jeff Cox 82, Trevor Mabeus 83, Jordon Phomsouvandara 86, William Kinney 93, Beau Parkevich 98 and Sam Van DeBerg 100  Medalist honors went to Chase Finke of Columbus Community and Ian Kelly of Marion who had identical 74 scores.
THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES BEAT THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS 7-5 SATURDAY IN RECORD SETTING STYLE.  THE PIRATES EXECUTED THE FIRST EVER 4-5-4 TRIPLE PLAY IN MAJOR LEAGUE HISTORY TO GET OUT OF THE 2ND INNING AND A CARDINAL SCORING THREAT.
