IOWA FARM BUREAU SHOWS WHY IOWANS TRUST FARMERS AT
2015 IOWA STATE FAIR
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Aug. 4, 2015 – 2015 Iowa State Fairgoers are invited to Farm Bureau Park to meet Iowa farmers, and learn about the many ways they grow safe, wholesome food, while protecting the environment. Today’s farmers say earning the trust of Iowans is central to everything they do, and the cornerstone of sustainable agriculture. While learning more about farming, fairgoers can also check out exhibits and play games at the newly designed Farm Bureau Park on the Grand Concourse.
“Farm Bureau Park is a gathering place for members, farmers, and fairgoers who want to learn more about farming, because we know while fewer Iowans farm, they want to know more about how their food was raised or grown. We are proud to share that story, while celebrating our rural heritage; we are recognizing over 400 farms this year that have been owned and operated by the same families for more than 100 years. This type of sustainability can only happen if farmers take care of the land, because the land is their lifeblood, their history, as well as their future,” says Craig Hill, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation president.
Farm Bureau Park will continue to share the story of farming sustainability by once again hosting the Conservation Station, which highlights ways farmers are implementing innovative practices to protect soil and water quality. The station includes a rainfall simulator that demonstrates how rain affects various soil treatments and also features a “Poo Shuffleboard” educational game for the kids.
IFBF members should look for the state fair insert in the July 29 issue of the Spokesman and August 5 issue of Family Living for a coupon for a free membership ‘thank you’ gift. Other perks available to members include the opportunity to win a Cub Cadet zero turn riding mower and a 2-year lease on a new Ford F150 truck. Iowans who sign up to be Farm Bureau members during the Fair will receive a $10 ethanol gas card and can enter to win $2,000 in free ethanol gas. All visitors to the park can
enter a drawing for $1,000 in free groceries at a store of their choice.
Farm Bureau Park is also hosting free health care resources this year, including free cancer screenings, balance and osteoporosis screenings, and nutritional counseling. A daily schedule of the health care screenings can be found in the State Fair insert in the Spokesman or Family Living member publications or online at www.iowafarmbureau.com.
