The Mt. Pleasant varsity volleyball team defeated Washington 3 games to 1 in Panther Gym last night, tomorrow night they host Keokuk in conference play.
The MPHS JV volleyball team beat Washington 2-0 first set was 25-20, second set was 25-23. Dani Broeker had 9 aces and 21 digs. Mikayla Beason had 4 kills.
OTHER AREA VOLLEYBALL: Cardinal over Moravia 3 games to 1, Davenport West over Burlington 3 games to 2, Ft. Madison swept Keokuk 3-0, Lone Tree 3-0 over Central City, Mid Prairie won 3-0 over L&M.
Iowa Wesleyan competed in the Duhawk Fall Golf Invitational at Thunder Hills Golf Course in Peosta, IA Tuesday. The Tigers played against thirteen other teams in the one day event hosted by Loras College.
Iowa Wesleyan had a top ten finisher for the second time this season. Bo Vitale (JR/Mt. Pleasant, IA) ended the tournament with a score of 75, placing him in a seven way tie for 9th. Patrick Zielinski (SR/Mt. Pleasant, IA) followed his top ten finish from last week with a two stroke improvement, but finished tied for 16th place on the day. Kiley Miller (SO/Mt. Pleasant, IA) and Tanner Travis (SR/Columbus Junction, IA) each had 78 strokes for the round. They finished tied for 22nd place.
The Tigers will be off until September 20th. They will travel to Jacksonville, Illinois to participate in the MacMurray Fall Invite and tee off at 10 a.m.
Tyler Sash a former Oskaloosa High School sports standout and All Big Ten defensive back at Iowa and member of the New York Giants Super Bowl Champion team of 2011 was found dead in his Oskaloosa home yesterday morning. An autopsy will be done today to determine the cause of death.
Jesse Ertz, former Mediapolis High School quarterback who had his high school career ended with a knee injury, apparently has had this college football season at Kansas State ended by injury. Ertz a redshirt sophomore was named the starting quarterback for K-State last Saturday, played one play, gained 5 yards rushing and got up limping and left the game. He’s expected to miss the rest of this season.
The Panther Football team has a meal Thursday night after practice and Friday night after the game. The Thursday night meal is sponsored by Henry County Pork Producers and Phillips Auto Clinic. The Pork Producers will provide pork sandwiches for the boys. Phillips Auto is providing Au Gratin potatoes and cookies while several moms have signed up to round out the meal with fruit. For the Friday night post game meal, West Liberty Foods is sponsoring the meal and they will be providing pizza for the players and cheerleaders.
The public is invited to Bracewell Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m., for the “Tradition Calls” Grand Opening Celebration. The event will celebrate the Tradition Calls fundraising campaign to improve and modernize the stadium, a community landmark that has a long and storied history in Burlington.
The track at Maple Leaf Athletic Complex is being resurfaced. Walkers and runners are reminded that from now until Thursday, September 10th the track will be closed.
