Mt. Pleasant is off to a 0-2 start for the 2015 high school football season after traveling to Mediapolis and losing to the Bulldogs 20-13.  For the 2nd week in a row M.P. had a lead and could not build on it or hold onto it.  Pat Canby scored on a 10 yard run in the 1st quarter to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead, then added a 23 yard field goal in the 2nd quarter to lead 10-6.  Then Mediapolis capitalized on a couple of Mt. Pleasant mistakes and scored 14 points to be up 20-10 at the halftime break.  In the 2nd half Korte Maddy kicked a 42 yard field goal for the only points for either team.  Pat Canby rushed for 79 yards, Joe Hess was 14 of 31 passing with 1 interception, Brady Sartorius caught 2 passes for 51 yards, Dshundric Foster caught 5 for 48 yards.  Mediapolis was led by quarterback Arthur Brown going 16 for 26 passing and 185 yards and 1 INT.  Josh Osborne led the Bulldog rushing with 11 carries for 17 yards.  Mt. Pleasant goes home to play Keokuk in their district opener Friday and Mediapolis will travel to Williamsburg.  Keokuk lost to West Burlington-Notre Dame 35-14.

Mediapolis Fresh-Soph defeated Mt. Pleasant 33-7, Mepo led 27-0 at halftime.  Zach Beason threw a 70 yard touchdown pass to Rhett Zeglen for the Panther score in the 3rd quarter.  Leading the defense were:  James DeMeyer, Parker Baugh, Avonte Henle, Chase Lamm and Tucker Johnson..

Iowa Wesleyan University opens the 2015 season Saturday night on the road at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.  This is just the 2nd night game ever for the Rams at Ash Park Stadium, kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Iowa Wesleyan lineup will have a number of local players seeing action.  Christian Henricksen of Central Lee will start on defense in the line and may see some action in the offensive line.  Patrick Gwamna of Mt. Pleasant may see action in the line on both sides of the ball.  Taylor Hoyle and Donnie Johnson of Mt. Pleasant as receivers.  D.J. Beechum of Columbus Jct. in the defensive line, Tyler Ruby of Mt. Pleasant at linebacker, Beau Parkevich of Mt. Pleasant at defensive back and holder.

 

KILJ-FM 105.5 brings you the Illinois State at Iowa game from Nile Kinnick Stadium today.  KILJ-AM 1130 brings you the UNI at Iowa State game beginning at 5 p.m.

The public is invited to Bracewell Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m., for the “Tradition Calls” Grand Opening Celebration. The event will celebrate the Tradition Calls fundraising campaign to improve and modernize the stadium, a community landmark that has a long and storied history in Burlington.

The track at Maple Leaf Athletic Complex is being resurfaced.  Walkers and runners are reminded that from now until Thursday, September 10th the track will be closed.
