Joe Argo was on the go Friday night as Davenport Assumption defeated the Mt. Pleasant Panthers in the Senior Night Game 49-13 on Evans Field.  Argo ran for 3 Assumption scores and threw for two.  He accounted for 274 yards of their 384 total offensive output.  Joe Hess had a good night throwing the ball for the Panthers, Big Joe hit 19 of 32 for 259 yards, no interceptions and 2 touchdowns to Alex Carasco and D’Shundric Foster.  Zach Ebling led the ground attack with 38 yards on 4 rushes, the rushing game for M.P. netted only 26 yards though because of QB sacks.  Assumption led 7-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, but exploded for 4 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to put the game away before the halftime break.  Panthers are now 0-5 and 0-2 in the district, they play at Clear Creek-Amana next Friday, the Clippers beat Keokuk Friday night 17-10.

Mt. Pleasant won the freshman game 26-13.  Zach Beason threw for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns to Rhett Zeglen, Levi Puig and to Chase Lamm who caught 5 passes for 190 yards.  Avonte Henle ran for the other Panther score.  Defensively Bryce Anderson, Hunter Faul, Zach Beason and Tate Shull led the way.  Freshman record is now 4-1.

OTHER AREA SCORES:  Winfield Mt. Union beat Lone Tree 30-20, Waco rolled over Cardinal of Eldon 47-14 to win their homecoming game, New London came from behind to beat Danville on the Bears homecoming 24-18, Pekin blanked Van Buren 57-0, L&M upset Central Lee 14-6, Mediapolis won over West Liberty 48-14, Williamsburg beat West Burlington-Notre Dame 48-12, Fairfield 33 Ft. Madison 29, Washington 28 Solon 14, Moravia 88 Harmony 12.

College football today has the 0-3 Iowa Wesleyan Tigers hosting Minnesota Morris for the homecoming game at 2 p.m. on Evans Field.   Iowa plays North Texas in Kinnick Stadium KILJ-FM 105.5 will carry the game beginning at noon.  Iowa State is idle today.

The MPHS volleyball team plays at the Burlington Tournament today.

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference volleyball tournament got underway with pool play Thursday night.  Teams advancing onto today’s consolation bracket that begins at 11 a.m. at Southeastern Community College.  Lone Tree vs Central Lee, Waco vs Columbus Community, Van Buren vs Wapello and WMU vs IMS.  The championship bracket qualifiers and 1st round pairings for play that begins at 5 p.m. tonight at SCC.  Mediapolis vs Notre Dame, West Burlington vs Pekin, Cardinal of Eldon vs Holy Trinity Catholic and New London vs Highland.  New London, Holy Trinity Catholic, Mediapolis and Pekin were pool winners last night.
