SPORTS SEPTEMBER 22, 2016

FROM THE IRIS BOWLING CENTER AND SPLITZ LOUNGE SPORTS DESK.

The Danville Bears varsity football team is going to forfeit the remaining games on their varsity football schedule for 2016.  The Bears forfeited to WMU last week because of lack of numbers and that situation has not improved.  So the Bears will forfeit the remaining games on this year’s schedule and start making plans for the football program next year.  Danville is working to be able to play some schools on their schedule in JV competition.  Several options are available for the Bear’s program next year.  Resume playing 11 man football and hope for better turnout of players, play a JV only schedule of 11 man or 8 man football or Danville could drop football for a year and start a varsity 8 man program or share a program with another school.

Iowa Wesleyan hosted Coe College in a non-conference men’s soccer match Wednesday. The Kohawks scored the winning goal in the second minute of the second overtime period to defeat the Tigers 2-1.  IW had the lead at the end of the first half, but was unable to secure the win. Coe tied the game up in the second half to force overtime.

The Tigers’ next game is Saturday, September 24, 2016.  They will open up SLIAC play against Blackburn College at 3 pm.  Iowa Wesleyan is now 1-6-1 overall this season.
