The MPHS volleyball team had a good Saturday in the Ottumwa Tournament finishing in 2nd place, they were defeated in the championship match by Eddyville-Blakesburg. Mount Pleasant beat Ottumwa 2-1, Fairfield 2-1, Albia 2-0 and Davis County 2-1 before losing 2-0 in the championship match.
Iowa Wesleyan football team played their first road game of the season Saturday afternoon.  They traveled to Greenville College both teams came into the game searching for a win this season.  After falling behind early, the Tigers scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Panthers 40-37.  Jacquez Hall led the Tigers with four rushes for 88 yards, and Elijah Fant (FR/Tuscon, AZ) finished with two carries for 53 yards.  Raul Alvarez completed 25-47 attempts with one interception for 245 yards on the day.  Jeremy Gomez had a huge game for the Tigers.  He hauled in 11 catches for 138 yards in the win.  On defense, Andrew Terrell-Rodriguez recorded a team high nine tackles and one interception.  Derryck McKnight(FR/Lauderhill, FL) finished the game with four solo tackles and four assisted tackles.  The Tigers will be on the road next against Minnesota Morris this Saturday.  Kickoff is set for 12 pm. Iowa Wesleyan is now 1-2 overall and 1-1 in UMAC play this season.

 

The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team was on the road Saturday for a conference quad hosted by MacMurray College.  IW entered the day with a 3-2 overall record and a 2-1 SLIAC record after defeating Blackburn College the night before. Iowa Wesleyan came out and won the first match against MacMurray in five sets.  They fell to Greenville, falling in three sets to the Panthers.  Iowa Wesleyan will have their home opener tomorrow night,they host Monmouth College at 7 pm.  IW is now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in SLIAC play this season.

 

The Iowa Wesleyan Tiger men’s golf team competed in the Purple Cup Match Play Saturday afternoon. The event was hosted by Waldorf University.  IW fell 45-27 on the day. The match play was set up with four matches played.  Six holes were played as best ball, six holes were best shot, and six holes were played as alternate shot.  The first match had Bo Vitale (SR/Mt. Pleasant, IA) and Kiley Miller (JR/Mt. Pleasant, IA) paired together they lost their match 9.5 to 11.5.   Mitchell Schneider (SR/East Moline, IL) and Blake Forsythe (SO/Barden Ridge, Sydney, NSW, Aus) won 9.5 to 8.5 in the second match of the day.  Michael Neff (SR/Monroe, IA) and Connor McLean (SO/Sunbury Melbourne, Victorea, A) tied Waldorf 9-9 in the third match.  The final match featured the Waldorf coaches against IW coach, Kurt Moon, and Austin Willis (FR/Essesx, IL).  Iowa Wesleyan fell in the fourth match 16-2.

 

 

The Iowa Wesleyan women’s golf team competed in the Waldorf Invitational Sunday. The Tigers finished the day in third place with a team score of 573.

Iowa Wesleyan was led in scoring by Hannah Lien. Lien shot a 93 through 18 holes to tie for eleventh place individually.  Darby Massner was the next highest finisher for the Tigers.  She shot a 129 on the day to finish in 18th place.

The Tigers will be in action on September 25, 2016. They will travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa for a dual against William Penn.

 

The Iowa Wesleyan men’s soccer team hosted the Beavers of Buena Vista University Saturday afternoon.  After a scoreless first half, Iowa Wesleyan gave up three goals in the second half to fall 3-0.

The Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team also hosted Buena Vista University.  The Tigers were shut out 17-0 against BVU.

 

Specialty teams scored the Mt. Pleasant Panther touchdowns in their 30-13 loss at Oskaloosa Friday night.  The Panther offense continues to struggle with turnovers and penalties that prove to be drive killers.  Tanner Ruby scooped up blocked punt and carried it into the end zone for the Panthers 1st score late in the 1st half.  Jake Lowe returned a kickoff 97 yards for a score with 8 minutes to go in the game for the other score.  Next week Mt. Pleasant entertains Ft. Madison for homecoming, the Bloodhounds lost to West Burlington-Notre Dame last night 33-0.

Oskaloosa won the freshman game 43-7.

Southeastern Community College (SCC) will host the first-ever Dirty Hawk 5K on Saturday, October 29 in West Burlington.
