The  MPHS volleyball team tangled with Ft. Madison last night in Southeast Conference action, and fell  25-13, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15.   The JV team lost to Fort Madison 2 games to 1.  The freshman team lost  to Ft. Madison in 2 sets. 8 – 25 and 11 – 25.

AREA VOLLEYBALL:  #10 RANKED AND DEFENDING STATE CHAMPION Holy Trinity Catholic knocked off #3 ranked New London in Charles Lorber Gymnasium in a sweep 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20.  The win by the Crusaders continues their winning streak over New London that dates back to 2009.  Madelyn Orton had 23 kills for HTC, Breanna Metler and Brandi Allen each had 13 kills for the Tigers.  Clinton won in 3 games over Burlington, Notre Dame swept Danville, West Burlington won in 3 games over Central Lee, Winfield Mt. Union beat IMS in 3.  Lone Tree swept Columbus, Washington won 3-2 over Keokuk.

 

Iowa Wesleyan hosted Fontbonne University for a SLIAC conference volleyball match up.  The Tigers were looking to pick up their first win of the season, coming into the game with an 0-5 overall record.  IW was unable to keep a third set rally going and fell to the Griffins 1-3 by scores of 19-25, 14-25, 25-13, and 20-25.

 

Former Holy Trinity Catholic volleyball standout Mikaela Foecke is now making her presence felt on the collegiate level in her freshman year at Nebraska.  Mikaela was named the co-freshman of the week, she is an outside hitter for the 4th ranked Corn Husker team.

 

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade “A” team beat Fairfield in football 38-0.  Brennan Bender had 2 touchdowns and 155 yards rushing. Brevin Wilson was 4-6 passing with 65 yards and 1 td.  Chase Williamson and Brevin Wilson recovered fumbles with Wilson returning his for a score, Williamson also intercepted a pass.  Mitchell Moothart, Blaine Bowman and Mason Mills were other top defensive players.

In the “B” game M.P. won 8-0, Aeryn Wilson scored on a 30 yard run and Tyson Sysouchahn ran for a 2 point conversion.  Defensively David Watson, Sawyer and Sam Carrasco and Jaxon Glaha were the leaders.

Todd McGhghy has stepped down as offensive coordinator for the Burlington High School football team after the 1st 3 games of the season.  Burlington is off to an 0-3 start.
