Keokuk handed Mt. Pleasant a District football loss on Evans Field Friday night by a score of 21-14. Another case of MPHS having the lead at halftime and then not being able to build on it in the 2nd half. After leading 14-7 at halftime M.P. was shutout in the 2nd half. Panthers opened the game with a 90 yard scoring drive capped off by Pat Canby scoring from 16 yards out on a run, Korte Maddy added the point after. The next Panther score happened when Zach Ebling scored on a 4 yard run on a 4th and goal situation, Maddy again added the PAT. Next week the Panthers have a long non-district road trip to 3-0 Chariton who won Friday night over Saydel 21-14. The JV teams of the two schools play tonight in Keokuk.
The Mt. Pleasant freshmen beat Keokuk 42-20 led by Avonte Henley with 3 touchdowns and 236 total yards.

Mt. Pleasant High School volleyball team went 2 and 2 at the Wilton Tournament Saturday. MPHS beat IMS and Winfield Mt. Union. They lost to Durant-Bennett and Wilton.
In their second game of the season, Iowa Wesleyan was on the road at Westminster College Saturday. The Blue Jays handed Iowa Wesleyan their second loss of the season by a score of 27-6. The Tigers are now 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Iowa Wesleyan’s offense struggled against Westminster College, compiling 199 total yards of offense compared to the 407 yards by the Blue Jays. Caleb Huss (SR/Pekin, IL) was 10-19 passing with an interception. The Tigers were also just 4-15 on third down conversions on the day. Iowa Wesleyan’s lone touchdown came with 00:38 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Jeremy Gomez(JR/Dinuba, CA) hauled in a 9 yard reception from Caleb Huss. The Tigers extra point attempt was blocked. Larry Jackson (FR/Scott AFB, IL) led Iowa Wesleyan in rushing with 9 carries and 41 yards. Huss had 19 carries for 28 yards to go along with his 94 yards in the air. Leading the Tigers in receiving, was Bryson Oliver(FR/Aurora, IL), who had four receptions for 38 yards. Tylor Hoyle (SR/Mt. Pleasant, IA) was the second leading receiver Hoyle caught three passes for 23 yards. Tigers will play their first home game of the season this Saturday, kickoff is set for 1 p.m. against the Panthers of Greenville, Illinois. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.
The Iowa Wesleyan Tiger volleyball team opened up conference play Saturday against Westminster College and Webster University. Both games were at a neutral site at Greenville, Ill. Tigers dropped both matches losing to Westminister in the opener 3 games to 1. Then IWU fell to Webster 3 games to none.
Iowa Wesleyan will host Fontbonne University on September 15th. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in the Olan G. Ruble Arena.
Iowa Wesleyan Women’s Golf over the weekend saw the Tigers finish 7th out of 8 Teams at the Monmouth Invite
Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team hosted Stephens College for a non-conference game Saturday. The Tigers suffered their third loss of the season falling 8-0 to the Stars.
Iowa Wesleyan’s next game will be on September 18th. The Tigers will travel to Coe College for a 7 p.m. game.
