Keokuk handed Mt. Pleasant a District football loss on Evans Field Friday night by a score of 21-14.  Another case of MPHS having the lead at halftime and then not being able to build on it in the 2nd half.  After leading 14-7 at halftime M.P. was shutout in the 2nd half.  Panthers opened the game with a 90 yard scoring drive capped off by Pat Canby scoring from 16 yards out on a run, Korte Maddy added the point after.  The next Panther score happened when Zach Ebling scored on a 4 yard run on a 4th and goal situation, Maddy again added the PAT.  Keokuk had 2 big defensive plays that won the game for them.  An interception stopped another Panther drive and led to a Chief score.  Then a blocked punt recovered deep in Panther territory led to the winning score.  MPHS had 19 1st downs to Keokuk’s 10, each team passed for 128 yards and M.P. out rushed the visitors 137 yards to 75, Pat Canby had 128 of those yards.  Next week the Panthers have a long non-district road trip to 3-0 Chariton who won Friday night over Saydel 21-14.

The Mt. Pleasant freshmen beat Keokuk 42-20 led by Avonte Henley with 3 touchdowns and 236 total yards.  Zach Beason threw touchdown passes to Chase Lamm and Rhett Zeglen.  David Blancas remains perfect on PAT kicks this season.  Defensively James DeMeyer, Bryce Anderson, Clayton Loving, Noel Walls, Chase Lamm and Sam Beatty were the leaders.

Iowa Wesleyan football team hits the road today to Play WestMinister in Fulton, Mo.  Tigers last week opened the season on the road with a 33-9 loss to Cornell College .  Kickoff is 1 p.m.

The Iowa at Iowa State intrastate battle in football will be heard live today on KILJ-FM with the Iowa announcers and KILJ-AM 1130 with the Iowa State announcers, airtime is 1:30 p.m. kickoff is at 3:45.

The MPHS boy’s cross country team has jumped into the Class 3A cross country rankings in the #6 spot after winning the Fairfield Invitational Thursday.  Also Logan Murray remains the #1 ranked individual in class 3A boys cross country.

The MPHS volleyball team goes to Wilton for a tournament today, Panthers are coming off a conference win Thursday against Keokuk, Winfield Mt. Union is also in this tourney.  IWU volleyball plays at Westminister College.  Stephens College plays soccer at IWU,
