The 3rd ranked Washington Demons showed why they have such a lofty ranking In the Iowa high school football polls as they rolled over the Mt. Pleasant Panthers 47-12 on Evans Field Friday night.  Both teams forced each other to punt in their 1st few ball possessions, but about halfway thru the opening period the Demons broke loose and scored 20 unanswered points to finish the quarter leading 20-0.  Then the visitors put up 20 more points in the 2nd quarter to put the game away by halftime.  MPHS managed a score in the 2nd quarter when Patrick Canby ran in the end zone from 4 yards away, the Panthers would not score again until late in the game when Brody McGhGhy fought his way to pay dirt from 8 yards out.  Washington almost doubled Mt. Pleasant in total offense having a 386-201 advantage.  The Demons also forced 3 turnovers on the Panthers.  Pat Canby led Mt. Pleasant in rushing with 65 total yards, Kieran Kohorst led the receiving with 3 catches and 22 yards.  Sophomore quarterback Zac Beason rushed for 60 yards and threw for 31.  Mt. Pleasant is now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in District play, they travel to Oskaloosa next to play the Indians who beat Ft. Madison 49-0 Friday night.

In the freshman game Washington won 48-25, Rylan Seberg caught 3 touchdown passes from Brody Bender, Bender also ran for a score.

Today the MPHS volleyball team is competing in the Wilton tournament.

 

The Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers play at home today against Westminster, kickoff is at 1 p.m.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the game live.

 

KILJ-FM 105.5 and KILJ-AM 1130 will broadcast the Iowa State at Iowa game beginning at 4:30 p.m. with pregame and kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
