The MPHS Cross Country teams are working hard to prepare for the 2015 season.  The girl’s team under the direction of Jean Caboth and the Panther boy’s team is coached by Mitch Anderson.  The opening meet of the year is coming up tonight when the Panthers travel to Williamsburg, meet time is 6:30 p.m.  The meet was moved to early evening from the afternoon because of the heat.

The Iowa Wesleyan men’s golf team is playing at the Clarke University Invitational.  Clarke University is at IWU for men’s soccer.  The IWU women’s soccer team is hosting Harris-Stowe.

The Ft. Madison High School and Holy Trinity Catholic girls cross country teams have combined programs this fall.  HTC brings 3 very talented runners into the Bloodhound program.  Class 1A State qualifiers Allison Sporkman and Brett Schneider along with Avery Malinski add talent and depth to an already strong Ft. Madison team.  Sporkman and Schneider had already been running with the FMHS girls track team and helped them place 2nd in the Class 3A 4×800 relay at the 2015 State Track meet.

The latest high school football rankings from the Associated Press and Radio Iowa has West Des Moines Valley #1 in class 4A, Pella tops class 3A, West Union North Fayette tops 2A West Burlington-Notre Dame in 10th.  , Iowa City Regina is on top in class 1A, Gladbrook-Reinbeck is #1 in class “A” with Pekin 3rd.   and Newell-Fonda is ranked #1 in 8 man football.

The public is invited to Bracewell Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m., for the “Tradition Calls” Grand Opening Celebration. The event will celebrate the Tradition Calls fundraising campaign to improve and modernize the stadium, a community landmark that has a long and storied history in Burlington.

The track at Maple Leaf Athletic Complex is being resurfaced.  Walkers and runners are reminded that from now until Thursday, September 10th the track will be closed.
