The Mt. Pleasant girls varsity basketball team picked up a big home win Friday night over conference leader Fairfield 58-48. The Panthers got the lead early 15-13 at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Trojans 16-6 in the 2nd period to lead at halftime 31-19. Natalie Ita had 14 points, Kelsi Phipps and Shelby Allender had 13. Mt. Pleasant will take a 8-2 overall record and 3-2 conference mark over to Mediapolis tonight to play the #1 ranked team in class 3A basketball, JV game at 4:30 and the varsity game at 6 p.m. that will be heard on KILJ-FM 105.5. Mediapolis last night beat Lone Tree 75-31 led by Andrea Larson with 20 points.
The Panthers JV Girls Basketball team was in action Friday night against Fairfield for round two of the conference match-ups. The Panthers won 47-29 after leading at halftime 23-13. The Panther offense was led by Ally Davis as she dropped in 17 points as well as grabbing 9 rebounds, Bailey Johnson scored 11 and Rylee Amos 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

The Mt. Pleasant High School boys varsity basketball team beat Fairfield for the 2nd time this season winning on the road in the conference 53-45. M.P. led at the end of each quarter led by the scoring of Brady Sartorius with 18 points and Colin Mulford with 11. The 4-7 (2-3) Panthers will travel to Muscatine Tuesday.
Mt. Pleasant fell in the freshman game 52-42, Damion Lorenzo had 12 points and Jake Lowe scored 10. In the JV game Mt. Pleasant won 44-32, Brock Wilson led the way with 14 and Alex Carrasco scored 11.

The #1 ranked Iowa wrestlers defeated #11 Illinois 25-12 in Iowa City Friday night.
The MPHS bowling team hosts Keokuk today. The IWC Tiger women and men play conference basketball at Principia today. The Iowa men host Ohio State KILJ-FM 105.5 will carry the game. Iowa State plays host to Kansas KILJ-AM 1130 will carry the game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
