6th ranked class 1A Holy Trinity Catholic won the Mt. Pleasant volleyball Invitational Saturday in Panther Gym. Holy Trinity defeated 12th ranked New London 25-14, 25-17 to win the title. Mt. Pleasant defeated Central Lee and lost to New London and Holy Trinity.
The #2 ranked MPHS boys cross country team won the North Linn Invitational at Troy Mills Saturday with 78 points, #2 ranked Logan Murray in 1st place led 4 MPHS runners in the top 20. Cody Mertens was 5th, Kyle Vanderham 18th, Ryan Hutchison 19th, Jonathan Ita 35th. The MPHS girl’s team finished 14th with 341 points, Monticello was the winner with 60 points. Abby Ryon finished 12th to be the Panthers best finisher. Delaney McDowell finished 64th, Kelsey Notestein was 73rd, Taylor Murray 94th and Claire Holtkamp 98th.
St. Scholastica defeated the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers 45-7 Saturday on Evans Field. Wesleyan is now 1 and 5 overall and 1-4 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. Tigers go to Eureka next Saturday.
Iowa Hawkeye football team won at Minnesota 14-7.
Iowa State fell to Oklahoma State 38-31, Cyclones led by 10 points going into the 4th quarter.
Northern Iowa lost at South Dakota 28-25.
Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team dropped two matches at Webster University Saturday. Tigers fell to Principia and Webster in 3 set sweeps in both matches.
Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team fell at home to principia 5-0, the Tiger men lost to Principia 3-2.
In the Major League Baseball playoffs. The Chicago Cubs won 5-2 over the San Francisco Giants to take a two game lead in the best of five series that will continue Monday night in San Francisco. Los Angeles will play at Washington today at noon, a game that was postponed from Saturday. The American League Divisional Championship series resumes today with Texas playing at Toronto and Cleveland plays at Boston. The Blue Jays and Indians lead their series two games to none.
