The Mt. Pleasant Panther boys’ cross country team has moved up to #2 in the state team rankings. M.P. has 3 runners ranked in the top 30, Logan Murray is #2, Cody Mertens is #22 and Adam Boddenham 27th. The MPHS girls’ cross country team has Abby Ryon ranked #18 individually and the Ft. Madison girls are ranked 9th as a team.
The MPHS girls’ cross country team ran at Centerville yesterday and finished 3rd in the team standing with 77 points, Ft. Madison won the title with 37. Abby Ryon was 3rd individually in 20:37, Kelsey Notestein was 13th, Taylor Murray 19th, Delaney McDowell was 20th and Claire Holtkamp 26th.
The MPHS boys won the team title with a 20 score ahead of 2nd place Oskaloosa with 60. Logan Murray was 1st individually in 16:50, Cody Mertens was 2nd in 17:03, Kyle Vanderham was 4th, Ryan Hutchison 5th and Adam Bodenham 8th.
MPMS middle school cross country teams competed at the Manhattan Golf Course in Centerville on Tuesday. The girls were 3rd out of 9 teams led by an outstanding 6th place individual finish by Cristina Carthey in a time of 10:51 over the 1.5 mile course. Other top scoring Panthers were: Anna Ostby(13), Kenna Lamm(18), Marie Sitar(21), and Jessi Andrew(22).
The boys were 6th of 9 teams led by Drake Snavely’s 9th place finish of 10:10. Other scoring Panthers were: Heath Brooks(17), Logan Lee(28), Nathan McWilliams(40), and Luke Ryon(51). Great job runners! The Panthers finish their season at Fairfield on Oct. 13 at Waterworks Park for the Conference meet.
The Mt. Pleasant High School volleyball team honored their 9 seniors last night during their last regular season match in Panther Gym. And the seniors helped honor the fans and coaches by scoring a 3 sets to 1 win over Southeast Conference foe and rival Washington. Kalynn Batey had 18 assists, Mikayla Beason had 9 kills followed by Abbie Liechty and Lena Henriksen with 6 each, Dani Broeker had 13 digs and Kirsten Smith added 10.
MP JV volleyball team defeated Washington 2-1. M.P. 9th grade won in 3 games 2-1.
OTHER AREA VOLLEYBALL SCORES:
Burlington downed Davenport North 3 games to 2, Ft. Madison swept Fairfield 3-0, New London won in 3 sets over Danville, Wapello swept WMU and Waco won over West Burlington in a sweep.
The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade football team suffered a 24-0 Loss to Edward Stone Middle School of Burlington.
Dalton Church and Jacob Bailey recovered fumbles on defense.
Dewon Trent, Levi Graber and Dylon Hagans led the team in tackles.
The 5th quarter ended in a tie in the with one score each. Jacob Bailey ran for almost 100 yards and scored on a 65 yard TD run.
The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade football team won the “A” game 50-6 over Edward Stone. Mitchell Moothart and Jack Johnson each had 3 td’s. Brevin Wilson had 1. Chase Williamson, Cooper Pullis and Brevin Wilson scored 2 point conversions. Leading the defense: Samuel Carasco, Cooper Pullis, Avery Scandridge and Chase Adams.
The “B” team won 8-0 Cameron Coberly scored on a 73 yard run, and Samuel Carasco caught a 2 point conversion pass from Hunter Hearns.
The Wildcard game in the American League was won by Toronto over Baltimore last night 5-2 in 11 innings, Blue Jays now play at Texas tomorrow afternoon.
Tonight the National League Wild Card game will be played with the Giants playing the Mets in New York.
