Ft. Madison defeated Mt. Pleasant in Class 4A Regional Volleyball semifinal action in the HoundDome last night with a 3 game sweep 25-13, 25-12, 25-14.  It’s the 4th time that the Bloodhounds have defeated M.P., 3 of the 4 wins have been sweeps.  Abbie Liechty one of nine seniors on the Panther team led the offense with 9 kills and the defense with 5 blocks, Ashley Menke had 17 assists and she was 9 for 9 in serving, Afton Engberg had 11 digs.  Ft. Madison is now 18-17 and plays 4th ranked Marion 30-8 at Washington Tuesday night with the winner going to state.  Marion won over Clear Creek-Amana last night.  Mt. Pleasant ends the year 12-21.

Mediapolis traveled to West Liberty to play a Class 3A Regional Semi Final against the #1 ranked West Liberty Comets, and fell in straight sets 25-12, 25-10, 25-15.  West Liberty plays Centerville at Central Lee Tuesday night in the Regional final.

Class 1A regional semifinal play takes place tonight.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the Holy Trinity vs Moravia match from Davis County High School in Bloomfield, match time is 7 p.m.  New London will be playing S.E. Warren at Sigourney in the other Regional semifinal, Koehler Wendt will be doing game reports and wrap up during our HTC broadcast.  The winners will play Wednesday November 4th at Ft. Madison’s HoundDome for the right to go to state.

Iowa Wesleyan competed in their final conference volleyball game of the season last night against Eureka College.  The Tigers defeated the Red Devils in four sets by scores of 25-14, 21-25, 25-18, and 25-21.  Cierra Howard came into the game needing just two digs to break the career digs record.  Jamie Strawhacker, who played for Iowa Wesleyan from 1998-2001, held the previous record with 1407 digs throughout her career.  In her 300th career set, Howard broke the record in the first set of the night and finished the game with 17 digs to bring her career total to 1423 digs.

Iowa Wesleyan will play their final game of the season on Monday, November 2nd.  They will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take on Mount Mercy University at 7 pm.


The men’s basketball preseason poll has been released by the SLIAC.  Webster took the top spot in the coaches poll after receiving 71 total points and four first place votes.  Spalding ended up right behind the Gorlocks with 70 points in the poll and also had four first place votes.  Iowa Wesleyan was slated to finish in seventh place after receiving 36 total points.

The Tigers are coming off of a 12-13 overall record and 8-9 conference finish last season.  A key returner for Iowa Wesleyan is Chris Fowler a SR from Victorville, CA.  Fowler was the leading scorer for the Tigers last season, averaging 13.5 points per game while shooting 46 percent from the field.  He was also a Second Team All-Conference player and a USCAA Third Team All-American award winner last season.

Also returning for the Tigers are CJ Singletary and Marquis Jones).  Both were true freshman last season and saw significant playing time in their first season.  Singletary averaged 8.4 points per game and Jones finished the year with a 7.2 scoring average and 2.7 rebounding average.
