The Mt. Pleasant Panther varsity football team won another 1st half, but faltered on both sides of the ball in the 2nd half at Clear Creek-Amana Friday night to fall 20-6.  The Panthers scored on a Pat Canby 3 yard run with just over a minute to go in the 1st half, the Korte Maddy PAT attempt was blocked.  Then in the 2nd half the Clippers got their ground game going and tacked up 3 touchdowns.  For the Game CCA rushed for 323 yards while M.P. had 88.  M.P. did win the air game battle with 126 yard to 16 for the Clippers who completed just 1 pass compare to a 13 of 24 throwing performance by Joe Hess of the Panthers.  Patrick Canby rushed for 113 yards on 22 carries to lead the Mt. Pleasant ground attack, he also had 39 receiving yards to lead the air game.  The next game is homecoming for MPHS, they host Fairfield who beat Keokuk 41-23 Friday night.  In the freshman game Clear Creek Amana won 28-20, Chase Lamm caught 2 touchdown passes and James DeMeyer recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Panther scores.  Top defenders were DeMeyer, Noah Walls and Bryce Anderson.

Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team kicked off their weekend of volleyball at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois.  The Tigers played two matches, one versus Central College and the other against Blackburn.  Wesleyan split the matches, falling to Central 3-0 and defeating Blackburn 3-1.

 

Elmcrest Golf & Country Club in Cedar Rapids will be the host of the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 4A State Golf Tournament, Friday and Saturday, October 9-10.

Elmcrest is the home course of Cedar Rapids native Zach Johnson, one of the top professionals on the PGA Tour.

State qualifying district meets will be held Monday and Tuesday, October 5-6 with qualifying teams and individuals posted on the IHSAA website, Tuesday evening.  Defending 4A champion is Waukee

 

The Mt. Pleasant 5th and 6th grade football teams will get the chance to play under the lights on Monday October 5th.  Shawn Striegel varsity football coach has announced that after the JV game Monday, the 5th and 6th grade teams will play under the lights on Evans Field.  So come out and cheer the JV at 5 p.m. and the elementary teams at 7 p.m.  See the future Panther stars in action!!!!

Healthy Henry County Communities (HHCC) encourages residents of Henry County to join with thousands of other Iowans in a one-kilometer Healthiest State Walk on Wednesday, October 7th.  There will be a community walk in downtown Mt. Pleasant between 11:30am and 12:30pm.  To participate, register by the steam engine and walk two laps around the park during that time.  Prizes will be awarded.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has announced the Regional Volleyball pairings.  In class 4A Mt. Pleasant will open at home against Keokuk on 10/26/15 at 7 p.m.  The winner plays Ft. Madison on the Bloodhounds court on 10/29/15 in the semi finals.  The finals are at Washington on 11/3/15.  The teams in the other bracket are Clear Creek-Amana, Marion and Washington.
In class 1A defending state champion Holy Trinity Catholic opens at home against Harmony on 10/20/15, the winner plays Moulton-Udel at Holy Trinity 10/27/15.  The semi finals are in Bloomfield and the championship at Ft. Madison 11/4/15.  New London is in the same regional and opens at home against Maharishi on 10/20/15.  The winner plays Sigourney or Tri County at New London on 10/27/15.  The semi finals are at Sigourney on 10/30/15.  The final 11/4/15 at Ft. Madsion.  Winfield Mt. Union plays at Notre Dame on 10/20/15, English Valleys is at Waco that night.  The 2nd round action is at Notre Dame on 10/27/15, semi final action is at Tiffin on 10/30/15 and the finals at Maquoketa on 11/4/15.  Other teams in that region are Marquette Catholic, Easton Valley, Midland-Wyoming and Clinton Prince of Peace.
Class 3A has Mid Prairie at Mediapolis on 10/26/15.  The winner plays in the semis at West Liberty on 10/29/15.  The finals at Central Lee on 11/3/15.
