The State qualifying cross country meets for Iowa High School girls and boys cross country teams will be held today.  The Mt. Pleasant girls and boys teams will run in the 3A meet at Fairfield Water Works Park at 4 p.m.  The M.P. girls are unranked and will compete against the #1 ranked Davenport Assumption team, 4th ranked Marion and 8th ranked Ft. Madison.  The 5th ranked MPHS boys team is the highest ranked boys squad in the meet, and Logan Murrary of the Panthers is the #1 ranked class 3A individual runner.  The top 3 teams and top 15 individuals will advance onto the state meet in Ft. Dodge Saturday October 31st.  Local Class 2A girls and boys teams run at Columbus Jct. and the 1A schools run in Cedar Rapids.

The Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team played MacMurray College.  Both Iowa Wesleyan and MacMurray College entered the game without a win in conference action. The Tigers search for a win in SLIAC play continues after the Highlanders defeated IW, 6-1.

Iowa Wesleyan will travel to St. Louis, MO on Saturday, October 24th.  The Tigers will take on Webster University at 3 p.m.

 

The Iowa Wesleyan men’s soccer team was on the road against MacMurray College for a conference match up also. Both teams came into the game searching for their first conference win of the season.  The Tigers picked up their first win in SLIAC play with a 2-0 win over the Highlanders.  Josh Ortiz got the Tigers 1st goal at the 9:41 minute mark.

Mitch Schneider scored Iowa Wesleyan’s second goal of the game just 1:51 into the second half.

Iowa Wesleyan’s next game will be Saturday October 24th. They will face Webster University in St. Louis, MO at 1 p.m.

 

 

The last MPHS Panther varsity football team meal of the season will be held tonight.  The meal is co-sponsored by Mike and Shelley Anderson Shottenkirk Motors.  The menu is breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches, cheesy hash brown casserole and corn.  Plus lots of other home baked goodies from the team mothers!  The Panthers wrap up the 2015 season on the road at Ft. Madison Friday night, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.

Toronto beat Kansas City 7-1 in the ALCS Wednesday, KC leads the best of 7 series 3-1 and will host The Blue Jays Friday night to try and clinch the American League title and move onto the World Series.

The New York Mets are headed to the World Series as the National League Champs after completing a sweep of the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS, Mets clinched the title at Wrigley Field beating the Cubs 8-3 on their home field.  The series begins Tuesday at the American League champs stadium.
