Class 1A and 2A Regional Tournament Volleyball had 1st round action last night.  On KILJ-FM you heard the live broadcast of the Region #8 match with #6 ranked and defending State Champion Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders rolling over Harmony in 3 games 25-6, 25-12 and 25-6, led by Madelyn Orton with 11 kills.  The Crusaders now advance onto the next round to be played once again on their home court Tuesday night October 27th at 7 P.M., this time against Moulton-Udell who had a 1st round bye and has a record of 3-17.   The New London Tigers ranked 10th in Class 1A opened the tournament trail at home with a 3 game sweep of Maharishi 25-4, 25-4, 25-3.  The Tigers offense was led by 35 ace serves on the night, Josten Boyer was credited with 16 of those. New London will advance onto the next round October 27th and host either Sigourney or Tri-County they were to play last night but a power outage at the Sigourney school moved the match to tonight.  In Region 7 Waco swept English Valleys 25-13, 25-8, 25-22 and will play Burlington Notre Dame on the Nikes home court October 27th at 7 p.m.  The Nikes last night swept WMU 25-20, 26-24, 25-14 on the Lady Wolves home court.

Class 2A:  Pekin swept Van Buren, Highland won in 3 games over Columbus Community, West Burlington swept Danville.

OTHER AREA REGULAR SEASON VOLLEYBALL:  #1 Bettendorf defeated Burlington 3-0, Ft. Madison beat Washington 3-1.

The Iowa Wesleyan Tigers hosted MacMurray College in volleyball looking to put an end to their two game losing streak on senior night. Iowa Wesleyan recognized Lexa Mahr from Colchester, IL, Alyssa Morales Romeoville, IL, and Kali Unruh Erie,IL before their final home game of the season. Wesleyan suffered a heartbreaking loss against the Highlanders in five sets by scores of 16-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-22, and 14-16.

Iowa Wesleyan will be back in action on Saturday, October 24th.  They will travel to Elsah, Illinois to take on Principia College at 1:00 pm.

 

The last MPHS Panther varsity football team meal of the season will be held tomorrow night.  The meal is co-sponsored by Mike and Shelley Anderson Shottenkirk Motors.  The menu is breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches, cheesy hash brown casserole and corn.  Plus lots of other home baked goodies from the team mothers!  The Panthers wrap up the 2015 season on the road at Ft. Madison Friday night, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.
