The Mt. Pleasant High School JV football team ended their season at home last night falling to Solon 26-0, same score the varsity lost by Friday night.

Bryce Anderson led the passing stats going 7/12 for 65 yds, the Panther rushing game managed only 4 yards in 20 carries.  Levi Puig led the receiving corps with 2 catches for 18 yds,

William Copeland had 1 catch for 35 yds.  Defensively Tanner Ruby led the effort with 8 tackles

Bryce Anderson had 5, he also recovered a fumble.  James DeMeyer also recovered a fumble.

The final record end up to be 3-2, Coach Brent Broeker thanks the parents and fans for their great support throughout the season.


The Iowa Wesleyan women’s golf team competed in their final event of the fall season October 9-10th.  They participated in the William Penn Fall Classic and were one of thirteen teams in the field.  Iowa Wesleyan finished the two day event with a score of 952 through 36 holes.

The Tigers placed 13th in the field. Hannah Lien led IW in scoring for the tournament. She placed 62nd in the individual scoring after shooting a 190 through 36 holes. Darby Massner was the next best finisher for Iowa Wesleyan, recording  a 242 in the two day event.

Iowa Wesleyan is done competing for the 2016 fall season and will be back in action once the spring season kicks off.

The Iowa Wesleyan men’s golf team competed in the William Penn Fall Classic on Sunday, October 9th and Monday, October 10th.

The team score of 591 was 31 strokes over par and put IW in fifth place as a team.

Connor McLean led the Tigers with a total score of 143 through 36 holes putting  him in a tie for seventh place in individual scoring.  Bo Vitale was the next best finisher for the Tigers with a score of 147. He placed in a tie for 13th place.

Iowa Wesleyan has one more tournament left in the fall season. They will compete in the Viking Fall Classic on October 15, 2016.  The tournament will be at Fyre Lake Golf Course in Sherrard, Illinois.


Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade volleyball closed out their season Monday at Ottumwa

In the “A” match Mt Pleasant fell 2-0, to end the year with a 1-8 record.

The latest Associated Press high school football poll has only 1 S.E. Iowa team ranked, that is the Lone Tree Lions ranked 5th in 8 man football.  The Radio Iowa Poll has New London ranked 10th in Class “A” and Lone Tree 4th in 8-Man football.


Major League Baseball playoff results.  AMERICAN LEAGUE:  Cleveland 4 Boston 3, the Indians will now advance on to the American League Championship Series to play Toronto.  The 1st game will be Friday night in Cleveland.

NATIONAL LEAGUE:  The Washington Nationals beat the L.A. Dodgers 8-3 last night, the two teams play again tonight in L.A. with the Nationals leading the series 2 games to 1.

The Giants and Cubs went 13 inning last night in San Francisco with the Giants winning 6-5.  The two teams play again tonight in San Fran.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association have announced their State Cross Country qualifying meet sites and competitors.  Class 3A will have the #2 ranked Mt. Pleasant Panther boys team and the MPHS girls’ team running at Pella.  Other teams there:  Ballard, Bondurant-Farrar, Chariton, Grinnell, Knoxville, Nevada, North Polk, Norwalk, Oskaloosa, Pella and Saydel.

Class 2A has Central Lee and Van Buren-Harmony running at Pella.  Danville-New London, L&M and Mediapolis will run at Monticello.

Class 1A area teams will run at Seminole Valley Course in Cedar Rapids, Columbus-Community, Highland, Holy Trinity Catholic, Lone Tree, IMS, Pekin, Wapello, Waco and Winfield Mt. Union.
