Mt. Pleasant played a full 48 minutes of football against Fairfield Friday night in the Panther homecoming game, the outcome was not decided until the final minute and the Trojans hung on for a 43-33 ten point win.  M.P. did not have a strong start in the game, Fairfield kicked off to them and on the 1st pass that Panther quarterback Joe Hess threw was picked off and returned for a score.  Trojans missed the PAT and led 6-0 13 seconds into the game.  Panthers came right back with Pat Canby catching an 8 yard td pass from Hess and Korte Maddy added the PAT to give the home team the lead.  That only lasted :22 as Fairfield scored on a long run to grab the lead, that didn’t last long MPHS hit a 53 yard scoring pass to Jack Davis, Maddy added the point after and Panthers led 14-13.  That didn’t last long as the Trojans scored again and led 19-14 after the 1st quarter.  They increased the lead to 26-14 at half, and M.P. could never get it back  but kept the pressure on the rest of the game with Pat Canby catching a 56 yard pass and got in the end zone on a 9 yard run.  DShoundric Foster scored the last Panther touchdown on a 42 yard pass.  Mt. Pleasant’s offensive stats were better.  84 yards rushing led by Pat Canby with 65.  306 yards passing, Joe Hess was 20 of 40 with 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  Canby also led the receiving department with 8 catches for 138 yards.  Panthers did also have 2 fumbles lost and 11 penalties for 90 yards that hampered their effort.  The record is now o-7 overall and 0-4 in the district.  Next game is at Washington, the Demons destroyed Keokuk 50-7 Friday night.

Mt. Pleasant won the freshman game 28-8 to improve their record to 5-2, scoring touchdowns were:  Avonte Henle 2, Tucker Johnson and Tanner Box each had 1.  Johnson had 2 interceptions one returned for his score.  Leading tacklers were:  Bryce Anderson, Chase Lamm, Clayton Loving, Hunter Faul and James DeMeyer.

Iowa Wesleyan is on the road again today for football action at St. Scholastia in Duluth, Minnesota.  The Wesleyan Tigers have not tasted victory yet, they are coming off a 57-7 loss at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota.  The Saints won their homecoming game last Saturday over  Martin Luther 53-13, that improves their record to   4-1 overall  and 4-0 in the UMAC.

KILJ-FM 105.5 will bring the Iowa Hawkeyes home game against Illinois beginning at 9 a.m. and Iowa State will play at Texas Tech on KILJ-AM 1130 at 12:30 p.m.

 

The MPHS volleyball team hosts a tournament today with action beginning in Panther Gym at 9 a.m.  The MPHS cross country teams are running at North Linn Troy Mills.

 

To commemorate the 40th year of “The Road to the Dome,” the IHSAA will begin a 40-day countdown to the 2015 state championships. Starting Saturday, October 10, the IHSAA will post daily trivia questions and fun facts reflecting the championship achievements of teams, coaches, players, and officials. In addition, video highlights from selected championship games will also be posted.

Fans can test their knowledge with the trivia questions on the IHSAA Facebook page which will be posted by 10:30 a.m. each day with the answers being revealed by 2:30 p.m.
