The Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team was defeated by Simpson College 9-0.  Iowa Wesleyan’s men’s Soccer team fell to Buena Vista yesterday by a 5-0 score.   In volleyball action Clarke College of Dubuque downed the Tigers 25-21, 25-19, 25-13.

 

The Iowa Association of Track and Field Coaches has released it’s latest rankings of high school cross country teams in Iowa.  The Mt. Pleasant Panther boys are ranked #7 in class 3A this week, the #1 ranked team is Mount Vernon-Lisbon.  In the individual rankings Logan Murray of MPHS is ranked #2  and  Panther’S  Adam Bodenham is 26th.  West Des Moines Dowling is #1 in class 4A.  Unity Christian is #1 in 2A, in class 1A Nodaway Valley is #1 with Pekin ranked 3rd.  On the girl’s side Urbandale is #1 in class 4A, 3A is headed by Davenport Assumption, Ft. Madison-Holy trinity Catholic is 6th.  Monticello leads class 2A and Mediapolis is #11.  Pekin is the 31 ranked girls cross country team in class 1A.

The Chicago Cubs won their Wild Card game last night over Pittsburgh on the Pirates home field 4-0.  Cubbies now play the Cardinals in the National League Division Series that begins tomorrow in St. Louis at 5:45 p.m.

In the American League Division Series games that begin today.  Texas plays at Toronto this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and Houston at Kansas City tonight at 6:30 p.m.

This week the Mt. Pleasant Panther Football team celebrates homecoming.  The team meal will be breakfast at 6:45am at First United Methodist Church On Friday. Steve Davis of Davis Radiology is sponsoring the meal that will be prepared by Hillary in the catering department of HyVee. The players, coaches and parents want to thank all of the businesses and individuals who are so supportive of the football team.

Elmcrest Golf & Country Club in Cedar Rapids will be the host of the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 4A State Golf Tournament, Friday and Saturday, October 9-10.

Elmcrest is the home course of Cedar Rapids native Zach Johnson, one of the top professionals on the PGA Tour.

The Burlington Greyhounds will be part of the State Tournament field after placing 2nd in the District Tuesday.  Cedar Rapids Washington was 1st with a 307, Burlington 309 and Cedar Rapids Xavier qualified also with a 310.
