The MPHS girl’s basketball team traveled to Pella last night to play the 13th ranked Dutch in non-conference basketball and lost by a score of 65-47. The Dutch came out shooting red hot in the opening quarter to grab a 24-8 lead. Not only was their offense clicking on all five cylinders, their defense smothered the Panther offensive efforts causing turnovers and difficulty getting shots. Pella led 37-11 at halftime. Leading MPHS in scoring was D’Jannay Patterson with 19 points, Ally Davis scored 9 and grabbed 7 rebounds, and Sarah Moffett scored 8 points and had 5 rebounds. Mt. Pleasant is 0-1 and will host 5th ranked Fairfield Friday December 4th in Southeast conference action.
In the JV game Pella won 62-41. Maddie Williamson scored 19 points for the Panthers, Willie Brooks added 8, Abbie Liechty had 7.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has hired J. Lewis (Lewie) Curtis of Underwood as the new Director of Officials beginning March 1, 2016. Curtis replaces Roger Barr, who joined the IHSAA in 2003 and is retiring at the end of December.
Curtis is currently the Activities Director at Underwood Community Schools in western Iowa, a position he has held since 2000 along with serving as the middle school principal.
