The MPHS girl’s tennis team fell to Ft. Madison Friday 8-1. The Panthers lone win came in the #6 singles match where Megan Woodard won 9-7.
The MPHS boy’s tennis team won 5-4 over Ft. Madison on the Bloodhounds home courts. Picking up singles wins were: Austin Meyer, Blake Wickham, Sterling Wickham and Jared Batty. Blake Wickham and Matt Thorne won a doubles match.
The MPHS girls golf team finished 2nd in the Central Lee Invitational golf tournament Saturday shooting a 355 score. That was 9 strokes behind tournament champion Washington who carded a 346. Haley Booton and Emily Cox shot 83’s. Elle Schliesman had an 89, Cali Liechty shot 100, Keri Herr 102 and Halley Spence 107. Medalist for the tournament was Narah Nacos of Washington with an even par 74.
MPHS boy’s golf team finished 5th in the Fairfield Invitational Saturday with a 344 score. Centerville won the team title shooting a 309, Alex Moorman of Centerville was medalist with a 68. For MPHS Jordon Phomsouvandara shot 82, William Kinney had 84, Jeff Cox 88, Riley Kempker 90, Trevor Mabeus 91 and Beau Parkevich 96.
Creighton Mitchell set a new Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade 400 meter dash record at the Ft. Madison relays recently. He ran a winning time of 57.3 breaking the old record held by Doug Miller of 57.5. Creighton also won the 100 and 200 meter dashes during the meet.
Ft. Madison Bloodhound boys basketball standout Miles Wentzien has signed a national letter of intent to attend Missouri Western State University in St. Joe, Missouri. This is a division II NCAA school that is coming off a 12-15 season.
ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE TODAY: MPHS girls golf at Burlington Tournament on the Flint Hills Course. Keokuk at MPHS girl’s soccer and the MPHS boys play soccer at Keokuk. Mt. Pleasant Middle School track teams run at Ft. Madison Relays. The MPHS girls and boys track teams will be running at Fairfield in the Brookhart-Crew Relays.
Mt. Pleasant Panther 2015 boy’s Summer Basketball Camp registration is open for elementary thru high school boys. The 1st 1 week camp will be held June 22nd thru June 25th and week 2 will be July 13th thru 16th. Elementary camp is for 3rd thru 5th graders. Middle School camp for 6th thru 8th and High School camp is for 9th thru 12th graders. Camps will be conducted by Coach Paul Rundquist, and his staff. The Iowa Wesleyan College Tiger Club will host a golf tournament on June 12, 2015 at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. The tournament will be organized by the athletic department, and the event will benefit Tiger student-athletes. Registration for the event is now available at http://www.iwctigers.com/f/golfouting.php and can be completed online or by mailing in the registration form. There is limit of thirty-six teams for the tournament. Contests will be held at several different holes throughout the course and will include hole in one, longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin. A cocktail reception will take place after the completion of play, and raffle drawings will be held at that time. Iowa Wesleyan would like to thank the sponsors for helping make this event possible. Matt Lafrenz , a Country Financial agent, and Two Rivers Bank and Trust will be recognized as the title sponsor for the event. Country Financial is also the sponsor for the hole in one contest.
On Sunday May 3rd the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club will host the Darrel Brown Memorial 3 man best shot tournament for members and non-members. Tee off is at 10 a.m. the cost is $60 per team. Sunday May 17th is the women’s opening day best shot tournament with a 10 a.m. tee off. Memorial Day Monday May 25th there is a men’s 3 man best shot tournament for members and non-members at 8 a.m. for $60 per team. A 4 couple alternating best shot tournament will be held at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $80 per team for members and non-members.
