The MPHS girls golf team ranked 4th in Class 4A, opens up State Tournament play at the Coldwater Links in Ames beginning Tuesday morning and wraps up Wednesday after playing 18 holes each day.  Also in the field is conference foe and defending state champion #1 ranked Washington.  Fairfield another Southeast Conference team and the #2 ranked team also is in the field. The Panthers beat both those teams in the Regional Championship meet at Grinnell last week.   KILJ will keep you posted on the action.

 

The New London High School girls’ golf team is in State Tournament competition also beginning today at Jester Park Course in Granger.  The Tigers finished in tie for 2nd place at State last year and hope to put a state championship on the wall to go along with 4 straight conference and regional championships.

 

MPHS baseball team is hosting Keokuk tonight to open up Southeast Conference play and KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the 1st game of the twin bill at 5:30 p.m.

The 10th ranked MPHS softball team that placed 6th in the State Tournament last summer is playing host to 9th ranked Keokuk a team that ended last season ranked 11th in the state, 1st pitch of the double header is at 5:30 p.m. at Maple Leaf Field.

The Columbus Community-Winfield Mt. Union boys’ soccer team has qualified for the State Soccer Championships in Des Moines this week.  Saturday the Wildcats defeated Albia to punch their ticket to state.  Their 1st round match will be against #3 seed Kuempker Catholic of Carroll at James C. Cownie Soccer Complex field #8 at 12:15 Thursday afternoon.

GIRLS REGIONAL SOCCER ACTION TONIGHT:  1A Quarterfinal matches has Columbus Community @ Holy Trinity Catholic and Mediapolis @ Fairfield.  Class 2A semi-final matches has Burlington at Pella and Keokuk @ Burlington-Notre Dame/Danville.

Mt Pleasant Girls Basketball team is holding a Jr Panther Camp for all girls entering grades 4-8 June 20th-June 21st. For more information or to register, visit the Mt. Pleasant school website or contact coach Maynard.

 

The Henry County Football camp is going to be held June 1st thru 3rd at the Maple Leaf Athletic Complex, it is open to students who will be entering grades 4 thru 6 in the fall of 2016.  With paid admission all campers will receive a camp T-Shirt,

Instruction and feedback.

This three day non-padded camp will focus on the technique that improves skill and

introduces young athletes to concepts of the sport.

Along with flexibility and speed training, all positions will be covered in the three day

camp, including special teams.

The Mt. Pleasant High School and Iowa Wesleyan University football staffs will be conducting the camp with the help from past and present high school and college players.  Cost is $35, registration forms are available at elementary schools and you can contact Shawn Striegel head coach at MPHS or Mike Richtman head coach of the IWU Tigers.

 

The WACO CSD Foundation will host a Golf Outing on Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Golf and Country Club in Washington, Iowa. The outing is a 4 person, best ball, shotgun start tournament. Registration begins at 2:00 p.m. and the golf begins at 3:00 p.m.

Funds raised will benefit WACO athletes and community with the construction of a weight room and fitness center.

Flag sponsors are appreciated on a first come, first serve basis. Team fees are $250.00 includes green fees, 2 carts and meal. $65/person to be assigned to a team. Registration form and additional information available at www.wacocsd.org

 

 

 

The Iowa Wesleyan Tiger Athletic Club Annual Golf outing will be held Friday June 10th at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington.  Registration begins at 9 a.m.  A shotgun start begins at 10 a.m.  The post outing reception begins at 4 p.m.  The cost is $100 per player, $400 per team and there is a 36 team limit.  Golfers get 18 holes of golf with cart, box lunch, beverage tickets along with the post outing reception and raffle drawings.  There will also be a number of contests during the tournament.  Register online at http://www.iwtigers.com/f/golfouting.php
