Burlington downed Mt. Pleasant last night in girls’ Regional Tournament soccer action by a score of 10-0 in Burlington.  M.P. ends the year 8-8, Burlington 7-11 will advance on to play Pella Tuesday at Pella in the semifinals.


North Scott defeated the Mt. Pleasant Panthers in varsity baseball in Eldridge Thursday night by a score of 9-0.  Levi Parkevich suffered the loss on the mound, Cale Christner threw some relief.  Pat Canby was 2-3, Zach Ebling and Cooper Huckabone had hits also.  MPHS is 0-3 and will be playing at home tonight against Chariton in JV and varsity action with the JV game at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity tilt.

Mt. Pleasant beat North Scott in the JV game last night 7-5, Colby Potts pitched the win.


Mt. Pleasant and Burlington split a JV softball double header, M.P. won the opener 11-9 and dropped the 2nd game 7-1.


Mt. Pleasant Panther Ben Zihlman opens up play today at the Sate Tennis Tournament today at Byrnes Park in Cedar Rapids.  Zihlman takes a record of 11-4 into the competition.  Pairings will be established early today and then action will begin.  Two Ft. Madison High School players will be competing in the doubles competition, Drake Hogan and Jarrett Sykes will team up.


The boys’ State Golf Tournaments get going today, the Winfield Mt. Union boys’ golf team will be in the Class 1A tournament at the American Legion Course in Marshalltown.  They are led by sophomore Kaleb Hagge who is the defending state medalist champion, a title he won last year as a freshman.  Charles Jahn a senior at Mediapolis who finished 4th last year in the Class 2A medalist competition will be battling for that title again today and tomorrow at the 2A meet held at The Lake Side Course in Ft. Dodge.


The Mt. Pleasant High School girls’ golf team is preparing to play in the Class 4A State Meet next Tuesday and Wednesday in Ames.  KILJ will be doing a meet the players program with the players and coaches that will air at 9 a.m. Saturday morning on KILJ-FM 105.5 and on steaming as well as the program being available in the sports archives section of the website.  The program is being sponsored by Southeast Iowa Renal Dialysis.

The latest softball rankings has the MPHS girls’ team ranked 10th in Class 4A, conference foes Keokuk and Fairfield are 9th and 6th respectively.  Class 1A New London is 8th and Wapello is 14th in Class 2A.


Mt Pleasant Girls Basketball team is holding a Jr Panther Camp for all girls entering grades 4-8 June 20th-June 21st. For more information or to register, visit the Mt. Pleasant school website or contact coach Maynard.


The Henry County Football camp is going to be held June 1st thru 3rd at the Maple Leaf Athletic Complex, it is open to students who will be entering grades 4 thru 6 in the fall of 2016.  With paid admission all campers will receive a camp T-Shirt,

Instruction and feedback.

This three day non-padded camp will focus on the technique that improves skill and

introduces young athletes to concepts of the sport.

Along with flexibility and speed training, all positions will be covered in the three day

camp, including special teams.

The Mt. Pleasant High School and Iowa Wesleyan University football staffs will be conducting the camp with the help from past and present high school and college players.  Cost is $35, registration forms are available at elementary schools and you can contact Shawn Striegel head coach at MPHS or Mike Richtman head coach of the IWU Tigers.


The WACO CSD Foundation will host a Golf Outing on Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Golf and Country Club in Washington, Iowa. The outing is a 4 person, best ball, shotgun start tournament. Registration begins at 2:00 p.m. and the golf begins at 3:00 p.m.

Funds raised will benefit WACO athletes and community with the construction of a weight room and fitness center.

Flag sponsors are appreciated on a first come, first serve basis. Team fees are $250.00 includes green fees, 2 carts and meal. $65/person to be assigned to a team. Registration form and additional information available at




The Iowa Wesleyan Tiger Athletic Club Annual Golf outing will be held Friday June 10th at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington.  Registration begins at 9 a.m.  A shotgun start begins at 10 a.m.  The post outing reception begins at 4 p.m.  The cost is $100 per player, $400 per team and there is a 36 team limit.  Golfers get 18 holes of golf with cart, box lunch, beverage tickets along with the post outing reception and raffle drawings.  There will also be a number of contests during the tournament.  Register online at
