ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE TODAY:
The MPHS girls golf team plays in the 4A girls golf regional at the St. Andrews Golf Course in Cedar Rapids.
New London and Winfield Mt. Union girls golf teams play in the girls class 1A golf Regional final at Marengo today. They will be trying to qualify for the state meet that will be played at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
The MPHS baseball team is scheduled to open their season at Davenport Assumption this afternoon. The MPHS freshman softball team is scheduled to play a double header at Washington, and the MPHS boy’s soccer team will play at Keokuk in tournament soccer action.
WEDNESDAY: MPHS freshman baseball @ Washington, MPHS JV and varsity softball at Central Lee, Fairfield at MPHS freshman softball. THURSDAY: North Scott at MPHS JV and varsity baseball, Burlington at MPHS JV softball. FRIDAY: MPHS JV and varsity baseball at Chariton, Ft. Madison at MPHS girls soccer regional action 6 p.m., Ottumwa at MPHS varsity softball. SATURDAY: MPHS varsity softball at L&M tournament, MPHS JV softball at Ottumwa tournament.

This summer, Iowa Wesleyan will host a variety of camps for volleyball. The scheduled camps include junior high skills camp, high school skills camp, setter camp, speed/agilility/strength camp, Tiger Cub camp, middles camp, outsides/opposites camp, and a libero/ds camp. All camps are open to boys and girls and are located at Iowa Wesleyan College in Ruble Arena.
The 2015 Junior High Skills Camp is scheduled for June 22nd-25th. It will run from 9:00 am-11:30 am and is open to 6th-8th graders. Registration is $60 and includes a regulation volleyball. This is a mid-level camp for individuals just being introduced to the game at a competitive level. There will be an emphasis on the basic skills of passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and serving.
The High School Skills camp is also June 2nd-25th. The camp is open to 9th-12th grade and is from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. The cost is $60, and campers will rec! eive a regulation volleyball. The high school camp is a general skills camp for competitive players and an emphasis will be on passing, setting, hitting, serving, and blocking with a progression toward team concepts.
Monday, June 29th will be the date for the Setters Camp. This camp is open to 6th-12th grades and will be for players wanting to specialize as a setter or work on that part of their game. The setters camp will be from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm and is $25 to attend. Campers will receive a drawstring bag.

The 2015 Speed/Agility/Strength Camp is set for June 29th-July 2nd from 8:30 am-10:00 am. This event is for 6th-12th graders and is $45 to register. Campers will be taught basic, volleyball specific strength exercises, plyometrics, and agility movements, and attendees will receive a t-shirt.
The Tiger Cub Camp is an introductory camp where attendees will play games and learn basic skills in passing, setting, hitting, blocki! ng, and serving. FUNdamentals will be emphasized. The camp will be held June 29th-July 2nd from 10:30 am-12:00 pm and for grades K-5. Campers will receive a regulation volleyball.
The Middles Camp will be held Tuesday, June 30th from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm and will be for 6th-12th grades. This camp is for players wanting to specialize as a middle blocker or to work on that part of their game. All drills will be specific to hitting and blocking as a middle, middle footwork, and proper technique. Campers will receive a drawstring bag.
On Wednesday, July 1st, Iowa Wesleyan will host the Outsides/Opposites Camp. Players wanting to specialize as a hitter or to work on that part of their game can attend. All drills will be specific to hitting and passing from the outside. This camp will be open to 6th-12th grade and run from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm.
The final camp will be on July 2nd from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm. This camp will be the libero camp and will be open to 6th-12th grades. All drills will be specific to back row passing, passer footwork, and proper technique. Registration is $25 and campers will receive a drawstring bag.

On Saturday, June 13, the 2nd Alumni Football Game between Mt. Pleasant and Washington High School Alumni will be held on Evans Field at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex to benefit University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
The event is organized by Alumni Football USA, and will consist of a full contact football game, as well as various fundraising activities. The majority of event fundraising
comes from the presale of tickets, which will be available May 9, 2015 at Browns Shoe Fit,

Mt. Pleasant Panther 2015 boy’s Summer Basketball Camp registration is open for elementary thru high school boys. The 1st 1 week camp will be held June 22nd thru June 25th and week 2 will be July 13th thru 16th. Elementary camp is for 3rd thru 5th graders. Middle School camp for 6th thru 8th and High School camp is for 9th thru 12th graders. Camps will be conducted by Coach Paul Rundquist, and his staff.
